"A refreshing, modern twist on love! Madsen's smart and sexy banter had me hooked from page one - I never wanted it to end!" (Rachel Harris, NYT best-selling author)
Dating coach Savannah Gamble is used to helping women find their perfect Mr. Right. Through her 12-step program, anyone can find happiness. Too bad she has so much trouble following her own rules. Specifically rule number two: Believe Mr. Right is out there. That's her own dirty little secret, though.
After Lincoln Wells - the original "one who got away" - reenters her life, Savannah knows she has to stick to the rules and stay away from Linc if she ever wants her own happily-ever-after. Even if the chemistry she has with Linc is off the charts, she knows that once a commitment-phobe, always a commitment-phobe, and breaking her own rules puts her on the road to a broken heart...no matter how much fun the ride might be....

Ivy, Savannah's best friend since college, neglected to tell her that her cousin Linc returned after an injury thus ending his baseball career. He's the reason for several of her 12 rules. What really sucked was she lost the friendship they had together and all the time they'd spent laughing and talking after their one night stand, so she doubly experienced the rejection. With his blue eyes, he is sexy and strong, who hugs you so tight you can't stop thinking about him and the spark he caused that you haven't felt in a long time. He wants to rekindle their friendship, but if Savannah lets him in and trusts him again he could not only break her heart, but destroy her business. Is she willing to do that? You'll have to read 12 STEPS TO MR. RIGHT to find out.
The banter between characters was funny, genuine, very well developed. I laughed out loud, cried, wanted to reach through the pages and choke a character, and thoroughly enjoyed their crossword puzzles and electrifying chemistry. Could they have it all, best friends and a love that'll actually go somewhere? You'll have to read 12 STEPS TO MR. RIGHT to find out, but it'll be worth the time you take to read it. This is a contemporary second chance romance, pretty steamy toward the end, but in the end a HEA. Although this is my first Cindi Madsen book, it won't be my last! Due to sexual situations, this book is recommended for readers 16 and older. I received an ARC copy via IndieSage through NetGalley in exchange for a blog tour review.

Savannah and Lincoln (aka Linc) have a sweet chemistry that clearly still exists, despite the years that have passed since college when they first became friends and a one night stand lead to the demise of their close friendship. Savannah, if I’m truly honest, I struggled to connect with at first; she takes some warming up to, although, even later on in the book I had moments of cooling on her character again, and she can come across a little contradicting. Linc, a former baseball player, we get to know well enough but as the book is only told from Savannah’s perspective, as a reader, we are limited in fully understanding about him in depth. Linc’s actions come across as sweet and he is a likeable guy, with it being clear he is interested in re-connecting romantically with Savannah. It would have been interesting to have Linc’s perspective but I guess if we had of it would have ruined the true reveal of feelings and emotions of the fateful night in college for Linc and Savannah which destroyed their initial friendship/relationship. While the book is not that explicitly steamy, just a little towards the end of the book, there is a strong chemistry between Savannah and Linc that grows in a very natural way with Linc worming his way into Savannah’s life in a way that is obvious to the readers with romantic purposes but oblivious to Savannah that has you smiling along with at times (I adored the crossword puzzle scenes and how important they became!).
12 Steps to Mr Right is well written with clear planning seen throughout the whole of the twelve steps in how they are incorporated within the book. It was a little predictable in terms of miscommunication issues in college but generally unpredictable in terms of the plot in the present and how things would work out between Savannah and Linc with the tension and angst underlying in this fairly light-hearted romance. The book has a slow to steady pace and is heavily detailed in terms of Savannah’s techniques with her clients. While the steps were fun to read, the scenes with Savannah’s clients, especially one-on-one, I felt didn’t really add much to the book and if I’m honest, at times I found myself a bit bored reading and skimming over those scenes without feeling like I ever missed anything. It may be me but that’s what I found. The book is fairly clean for a contemporary romance with only a small amount of really sexually explicit scenes towards the end of the book. There is a HEA for Savannah and Linc allowing for this to be read as a clear standalone.
Overall, I enjoyed this well written contemporary romance with it’s unique plot and would recommend it to romance fans.

Apart from me not completly getting Linc, this was as always with Cindi's books a flawless read.

Savannah was hurt by Linc in college. He didn’t mean to but he was trying to do right. Sad but true. To deal with this hurt she embraced a new mantra. She created steps to making herself a better new person. She empowered herself. She had rules about men and who was right for women. And she followed them. Not only did she follow them she lived by them. so much so it became her livelihood and other women came to her to help them. She held workshops, dating consulting everything based on these 12 steps. To me they were more principles for her. Some were really good some pigeonholed and judged. The one I had the hardest with was step 9 for for Savannah she took that to be that no one could change from what they were before. Although she did.
So when she runs into Linc after making all these steps and changes to her life she is caught for a loop. A fun wild ride that we get to smile and set back to watch. Linc wasn’t what I expected. he was kind and fun. Smart and sexy. He was quiet in some ways and passionate. He was also very in love with Savannah. His life is in a upheaval and now he is trying to figure out what’s next. He overall was a great guy. I loved how he gave Savannah enough rope to hang herself but also tried to get her to see differently. He didn’t try to change her only show her other aspects and get her to be less narrow minded. they went back to being friends so easily and their moments together were great. The baseball game and bar awesome. Linc really was trying. He was patient and opened up to her as well. Savannah was fighting herself and trying to stay strong. She did some majorly stupid things and they hurt Linc because of her stubbornness. She put him in a box and refused to see anything but her pain. It wasn’t until she loses him that she realizes her own stupidity. Good thing Linc was in love with her and wanted her to see him for him and had patience or she would have blown it.
A fun sexy wildy entertaining book about two friends who have different views. One is relaxed and supportive. He also hurt the girl in the past. Not because he wanted to but so that he could pursue a dream and be a good guy. his life changes and he wants more. He tries to show her this but she is stubborn. The love and attraction is through the roof and so is the fun banter. I love how Savannah was towards herself in those conversations really her fighting with herself about her rules and letting the past keep such a strong hold to the bitter end was great to see. Sad and painful but entertaining. It also made for a wonderful way to see her let go and learn to bend and see Linc for who he really is at the end. Truly a treat of a sexy book that is the story of Linc and Savannah. How they met, were friends, lost touch and influenced each other and get a second chance. This is the story of that second chance.
