This game sucks. I have played Civ since Civ 1 back in the 1990’s. And most recently with CIV 5. Without the keyboard and mouse, the gameplay is trash. Takes forever to figure out what buttons you are supposed to hit to move the worker or the warrior. I just move the worker around because he can’t actually do anything. The game play is so different from the past I gave up after a couple of hours trying to figure out what to do.

Also,the way you build up your city is changed and it takes forever to build anything. The science discoveries are confusing too.

The biggest complain is how S-L-ooooooooooooooow everything is. Such a disappointment.

UPDATE: I was going to come on here and update that I found a workaround by turning off the DLC updates in the game settings and was able to play with few issues except the game asking me to update it every time I turned it on. However, it has come to my attention that they have just released a new patch that has addressed the issues. I haven’t installed it yet because I am almost finished my current game but the reviews are good and say they have addressed It and everything is running great. I love this game. It is addictive and time eating. I can see it ruining marriages, deserting kids and jobs. Buy this if you don’t want to go outside anymore or have excellent self control and time management. Pro Tip (lol): I set the sleep timer on my TV for the amount of time I’m willing to invest. Happy dominating!

So... I was very excited to play this game on my Switch, as I used to play it on my Mac years ago and find my life actually has time to sporadically get lost in video games now. Well. Hours and hours of gameplay and getting my bearings, I finally had a round that was going well. I had 2 cities between me and total world domination and "crash". Hmm. Sucks. Ok. Turn on and off again. Approach second last city and "crash". Fine. On to other city instead and everything is hunky dory. Down to one final city to complete my coup. Back to other city "crash".
So close. Only 1 city left and can't make it happen. Make my peace and move on.

Start New campaign.

Half way through, almost ready to start my world takeover again. Crash. Restart. Crash. Restart. Crash. Give up and come to Amazon to bid fair warning to my fellow shoppers.

Buy this game if you have nothing better to do than make big plans, hours to waste and want to accomplish nothing with your time.
Apparently the last software update (before I bought it) made this game unplayable on the Switch. They say they are aware of it and are working on a patch update but there is no word on when it will be ready. I debated returning for a refund but I'm sure the developers will fix it eventually. If you look on forums some VERY patient people have figured out some work around solutions. Bah. I don't have the patience for that but maybe you do.

Every other Civ game I've played I was instantly obsessed with and would play every chance I got. This one, not so much. And I'm not sure why. It just doesn't seem as engaging as the other ones. In a weird way it seems more like I'm watching someone else play it, and I don't really care what happens.

I'll keep playing, it is Civ after all, maybe the hardest levels will be more engaging.
Never thought I'd give a Civ game less than 5 stars but I can't do more than 4 stars for this one (I will update if I change my mind).

Absolutely amazing transition to consoles, I used to play this game on PC and when I tried it on PS4 I honestly did not notice a difference. Everything is so convenient and easy to play, you don't even have to think what button to press, you just press the right one. This game looks absolutely fantastic on a big screen. A must have for any collection

I never played Civ before so I can't compare. But Civ 6 is amazing. Very addictive, I can barely put my Switch out of my hands. I never liked the 4x genre but now I love it! It is a calm game that is perfect for a chilly evening. You can play 5 minutes on the bus as the turn based system allows small a quick round everywhere.

The diplomatic aspect of the gameplay is weird. Sometimes other leaders denounce you for being a warmonger when you don't attack anyone. On the contrary you can barely denounce other leaders. Doesn't make much sense.

The only downside of the game is a laggy performance on the Switch. Especially later after 250 turns the game really starts to lag.

I bought it for $30 which is kinda expensive. On PC it was for free on Epic Store and on Steam you get it for $20. The DLCs are really expensive with another whopping $60. Not sure if that is justified. Sucks as the DLCs bare some good content.
I recommend it for everyone who likes some planning and strategic thinking. Give the 4x genre a chance. I was so amazed by Civ 6 that I can't wait for a new one. Be prepared for hefty DLC prices though.

I think this is a must buy for the switch. Being able to play on the go, showing people your intellectual side trying to make diplomatic moves and powering through nations of old. Brought back memories when I was tied to the computer at home playing these civilization games for the first time wondering how the heck you could when the game off culture alone lol. If your a fan of civilizations this is a good addition

I used to play Civilization Revolution on the DS and that was my introduction to the series, then I played Civ 5 on the PC and fell in love. Civ 6 is a good addition to the series so far and i'm excited to see how it will be on Switch! This game does have a learning curve that can be intimidating to new players, but I assure you that if you invest a little time into learning the game there are countless hours of gameplay waiting for you on the other side with near infinite replay value.

This was my first version of Civilization that I bought for a console instead of PC. The controls are well laid out and only have a few minor annoyances over the mouse and keyboard controls I'm accustom to using. A recent update improved things further by adding the much needed "build queue" which has been in previous versions of Civ. Performance is great for a portable version and I like that the Switch can sleep and keep my game active for days or weeks unlike a PC version where I have to exit the game and reload it later if I need to go do something else.
I also picked up the game on sale and it was well below the price of a AAA game.

Got the game for $30 on sale. It's a good game if you are a fan of the Civilization line of games. I don't think it's worth the full price of $60 though. I like that there is more than 1 way to win, lots of replayability as well as playing different countries makes it feel like a new game each time. Late game when there are lots of pieces on the map I find the load time for a turn to be pretty slow.

It brings me back to the time playing this game on my desktop computer although I think it was just Civilization then. The game itself is great and you have the option of downloading extra Civilizations. The graphics are bang on amazing, I could not believe the colours when I loaded this to play.
