This History of Fun Stuff is a great series for kids in early middle grade school (2nd to 4th grade). The books are all Ready-to-Read short chapter books (Level 3) with a section at the end with more in depth notes and/or notes for further research and a multiple-choice comprehension quiz.
What I liked is that they present a nice survey of the history of something -- pizza, ice cream, phones, video games, etc -- that kids are interested in anyway and expand the lesson (a little bit) to include some historical, geographical or scientific information as well. Well done!
