SmartGauge D2
The SmartGauge D2 is an precision, lightweight, all-purpose air pressure gauge. Packed with features, it is an essential tool whether you are fine-tuning the pressure on your tires, your suspension, or just to keep in the glove box of your car for when you need it.
Body: Engineering grade plastic
Size: 4"x1.8"x1.4"
Weight: 65 gr
ART#: TSG-02

Precision digital gauge
The precision digital gauge gives accurate readings up to 250 psi / 17 bar and is designed for use with tires and suspension. LCD display shows pressure in psi, bar or kg/cm.

Rotating head
A rotating head makes it easy to mount the gauge on the valve at a straight angle while also allowing you to comfortably see the digital display.

Air release button
An air release button near the head lets you precisely release air to fine tune the pressure in your tires or suspension.

SmartHead
SmartHead technology works seamlessly with Presta and Schrader valves without changing parts, making this a great all-purpose gauge for bicycles, powersport, and car tires.

However with its uniquely designed presta valve feature. The unit I received is very challenging to use. The brass piece sticking up in the middle will not easily retract when pushed by the tire valve. It gets hung up on inner wall surfaces or something, and while trying to attach to the valve; it lets out a lot of air because you’re pushing down on the tire valve needle. I’ve had to fill my tires over 10 psi greater and try to attach to the presta valve without letting too much air out. Otherwise, attach the pump again when this fails 2/3 times… and I’ve let out too much air. Then do the whole process over again. This sliding lever for different valves is a nifty idea conceptually, but it’s not good when using it. It has a air pressure release valve, but as you use that button - the pressure measured on the gage does not change. You have to take it off, and put it back on again. Not great, because you’re repeating this issue above over and over again.
I would recommend finding a pressure tester with two separate valve holes, or take some anger management classes before you use it.
I run my fat bike with studded tires in the winter at 7 psi.
Most gauges cannot accurately measure the lower fat bike tire pressures.
This gauge can do what my normal cheaper gauges cannot.
PROS:
- well-built
- good design
- swivel head
- compact
- digital readout
- good button placement
CONS:
- poor backlight
- Smart Head has a poor sealing point for Presta valves
- PSI readout is rounded in full numbers
- inconvenient battery door access
- No case/cover to protect the gauge during storage
OVERALL:
I don't care for the Smart Head feature and would prefer a dual-head design in order to seat the valves properly with minimal air leak. On top of this, I would also like to see the incorporation of a locking valve so I don't have to keep on pressing the gauge tirelessly on the valve similar to bike pumps.
The backlighting is not good and I know this has been addressed in the second version, D2X.
It's a good compact design with shortcomings not to warrant its price. I would look at the second version or its competitor, SKS.
It did not work. I checked 4 tires (one Schrader and 3 presta valve) and never got a reading over 10 PSI. The Schrader valve never registered no matter how much I fiddled. The presta valve tires never gave a reading over 10 PSI despite being fully inflated. I tried a fresh battery and got exactly the same readings. It also causes a lot of air loss while trying to get a reading so I had to reinflate all my tires after this unit failed to do anything. Save yourself the headache and just get a floor pump with a gauge and a a decent hand pump or CO2 pump.
It works on Presta and Schrader valves, as advertised, and it's more easy to operate than some suggest. It measures the high pressures required for my road bike tires and the low pressures on my fat bike. The continuous measurement mode used to adjust pressure on the fly is useful. What I don't know, however, is its accuracy but I suppose that has to be assumed.
The lack of decimal readings I should have noticed and not bought. My old gauge read 4.8 psi. This gauge read 3 psi. This gauge is definitely the one that is not right. I'd return if I had not thrown away the packaging.
One thing to note that whenever you take a reading with this gauge, you lose 2 psi from the tire.
Generally I am very happy with this product.

The two gauges read within 1psi of each other and more importantly are consistent in their readings.
Having a button to bleed air out is very useful for if you've slightly over inflated. Only downside is the price which is on the high side for a pressure gauge in my opinion but I guess you get what you pay for (my first one is still going after about 8 years).
