Need an on-the-spot two-bike carrier but don't want to carry a full-sized rack around? Turn to the Allen MT-2 ultra-compact two-bike carrier, which folds up small and fits in almost any bag, including your backpack. Ideal for traveling, commuting, and other occasions when a portable bike rack might come in handy, the rack is small yet secure, with three padded legs that rest against your vehicle and three adjustable straps that secure to your car's hatchback or trunk gaps. Just as importantly, the rack holds your bikes in a safe position thanks to the tie-downs and padding, which combine to keep your bikes from rocking or making contact with your vehicle. And when you're done using the rack, simply fold it up and store it inside the included carrying bag. The two-bike rack--which sports a gray powder-coated finish--is designed to fit sedans, hatchbacks, minivans, and SUVs.

About Allen Sports
Dick Allen (pictured left in 1972) started Allen Sports in his garage in 1967. Since its founding, the company has been committed to producing the highest-quality, easiest-to-use bike racks and bicycle related products on the market. Dick, a onetime aerospace engineer, opened Allen Sports after building a prototype bike carrier in his Lincoln, Massachusetts shop in his free time. The first ever trunk-mounted bicycle carrier made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding) was thoroughly tested on weekend excursions to Cape Cod. Shortly afterward, Allen took his design to market, and by 1971 had established a national presence for his product.
Today, the family owned company owns more than three dozen patents, operates four warehouses nationally, six factories abroad, and sells products in countries around the world including USA, Mexico, Canada, and China.

Initially, we placed the two flat rubber supports on my trunk glass. However, this placement made the bottom rubbers (the main support) on my license plate. I was scared the pressure of 2 road bikes may cause it to crack. So we lowered it until it was past my license plate.
I couldnt attach the last supporting hook under my trunk since it was right below the bottom rubber supports.
Luckily, my cooper has a bunch of random hitches INSIDE my trunk. This was option 2 in the manual as well.
It kinda works out, so now we can leave the bike rack on securely, wherever we go. It saves us the hassle of disassembling it. Of course we still use the bike locks to prevent theft.
It's an amazing space saver, great on the highway, on turns and bumps. You may want to buy a few bungee cords/zip ties to secure the wheels together. As for the loose and long left over straps, you can tie it on the bike wheels.
I recommend it.

My car, let’s call her Gracie, isn’t exactly the best automobile to transport large cruiser bikes.
Now with the addition of the Allen Sports rack I drive around showing my bike off just for fun !!
I look at my bike and excitedly ask it, “who wants to go for a car ride?!?”. Then I strap on the rack, and me and my bike slowly cruise the downtown core listening to 90s rap,
Basically, this bike rack is so good I’ve given up on pedalling and just drive my bike around now.

Pros:
Affordable
Quick install/takedown
Very compact
Low profile even with two bikes.
Did not block the licence plate at all on my vehicle
Reasonably secure mounting
The rack stays in place at highway speeds but I did notice the straps weren't quite as tight at the end of my hour drive.
Cons:
Bikes are secured to the rack with nylon straps and plastic loop-through style fasteners. They work but it's a bit annoying that you have to undo the strap completely each time. I wish it had more of a clamp style fastener with quick release.
I also worry about security if I have to leave my vehicle with the bikes on the rack because it would be super easy to cut the straps. Basically the best you can do is lock the bikes together to make them harder to steal.
All in all I'm very happy with this purchase so far!
The straps have a tendency to come loose from the heavier end of the bike, and within 5 minutes of driving the car, the bike will become lopsided and the support surfaces will start sliding. Add in a few very minor potholes, and you'll find yourself getting out of your car every 5-10 mins and re-adjusting the straps over and over again.
I've tried different techniques, followed the instruction manual by the word, hasn't changed the extreme hassle I have to go through.
To the point where I I've stopped using it anymore.
It is sturdy and even when I was purposefully driving over bumps to test if the rack capability, neither the rack nor the bike bounced at all.
The rack stayed firmly pressed against the vehicle and so did the bike.
The extra slack on the bottom strap is welcome. This extra slack allows me to wrap the strap around the main housing of the rack, then around the frame of the bike a couple times, and then loop it once over the tire and finally tie it all up on the main frame of the bike.
This process makes the bike motionless on the rack and prevents the bike from swaying and the tire/handle bars from moving at all.
I have only tested the rack with a single bike, I have yet to put a second bike on this rack and use it so I can not comment on functionality with two bikes.

I bought the Allen bike rack for our 2 childrens bikes to go on our Peugeot 2008. Although it wasn’t listed as fitting our car for what it cost it was worth a punt.
It arrived the next day as it was prime delivery. It comes in a small but weighty box. The rack is super simple to get ready. I would say assembly as it’s fully assembled in the box and just has to be erected if you like.
It has 5 nylon straps with metal hooks on the ends which 2 hook over the top of the boot, 2 to the sides and 1 under the bottom of the boot lid. The whole operation took about 10 mins maximum.
So the bikes we were using were 2 fairly small child’s bikes and they posed some trouble. This was because 1 was just too small, we got it on to a certain extent but not as I would of preferred. The second slightly bigger bike was a jiggle (again because of its size) but it went on. Apart from that and not wanting to strap the rack tighter to the boot in case of damage the rack served it’s purpose. We had a 15min drive to a promenade for a little ride and besides a nerve racking first drive, the drive back was less nail biting as I tightened the rack to the boot a little.
After getting back the bikes come off super easy and the rack comes with a small bag to keep it in after unlatching and folding up.
So all in all the rack flat out works, it isn’t exactly the sturdiest on the market but it is certainly one of the cheapest, the build quality is more than enough for what we need, 2 small child’s bikes.
Personally I wouldn’t start hanging heavy or large expensive bikes off it for the obvious reasons and I wouldn’t want to drive for a couple of hundred miles with it in the boot. It is fairly forgiving in the fit on cars and I imagine it will fit most hatchbacks etc.
Anyways hopefully this lengthy review is of some help to anyone who is in the market for a cheap bike rack.

I've had a few cumbersome carriers over the years that needed storage facilities because they were big, robust units that couldn't be compacted....
This unit is soo compact, folding into itself very neatly ...
Take your time unfolding it..... it works but can cause frustration if your expectations are that you just put it on your car & go!!!!
Practice, Practice with it, it works and folds up soo compact that you can leave it in your Trunk/Boot.....
Patience & Understanding required 🙏
