About Allen Sports

Dick Allen (pictured left in 1972) started Allen Sports in his garage in 1967. Since its founding, the company has been committed to producing the highest-quality, easiest-to-use bike racks and bicycle related products on the market. Dick, a onetime aerospace engineer, opened Allen Sports after building a prototype bike carrier in his Lincoln, Massachusetts shop in his free time. The first ever trunk-mounted bicycle carrier--made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding)-- was thoroughly tested on weekend excursions to Cape Cod. Shortly afterward, Allen took his design to market, and by 1971 had established a national presence for his product.

Today, the family owned company owns more than three dozen patents, operates four warehouses nationally, six factories abroad, and sells products in countries around the world including USA, Mexico, Canada, and China.

Not a thule rack or anything as fancy but definitely high up there! Fit perfectly on the car, just gotta make sure to get the top bar underneath the brake light to properly secure. Used it several times so far with no concerns. Attached my snowboard rack and it fit as well.

This bike rack is great, I have a Jeep with oversized tires (315/70r17) and this fits my spare well, it’s snug, sturdy and when strapped to the underside of my rear door doesn’t budge at all. The only thing I do beyond the 2 straps to the bottom is run a cam cinch strap through the tire carrier and around the bikes to keep the handlebars from swaying in the wind. I’ve had 3 bikes loaded on this and with the weight of the tires and the bikes the rear door still swings easily and I don’t see any deflection of the sheet metal or sagging of the hinges. It also folds almost completely flat so I can hang it on the wall when not in use. Best of all is I can still tow a trailer as it leaves the hitch free for that use. Overall a great value for a quality product.

Warning: Does NOT fit Eurobike Mountain Bikes!

It is my fault that we did not try to use this until yesterday, even though purchased last year. Neither of our mountain bikes will fit on it (26" and 29" wheels Eurobike mountain bikes). The spacing between the two arms is too wide and will not fit into the frame of the bikes.
Total waste of money, but again, my own fault for not needing to use it until yesterday, as my return window is gone. However, the specs on the page and the specs of our bikes do indicate that it SHOULD have worked.

The rack is well made otherwise, but I can't really say if it is truly sturdy and holds the bikes during transport as we have never used it.

Bought this rack for my 2009 Jeep Wrangler JKU and it fit perfectly. The top bar goes under the tire mounted brake light, with the middle supports resting on the bottom of the spare, and the bottom straps running under the spare tire and into the inside of the tailgate.

The bottom straps have hooks and I attached them to the vent slots on the tailgate. After hooking the securing straps onto the tailgate, it was easy to secure everything with the strap tightener thingys.

I have not used the rack for three bikes, but two fit perfectly with seemingly enough room for another.

I have a 2006 Honda CRV and we tested it out with 2 bikes. The arms at the top (that hang off the top of the spare tire) are quite short. We made a very slow turn getting out of the garage and the entire rack popped right off. We thought maybe we attached it incorrectly so we tried again, tightening everything down. Went down the street in a straight line just fine. Then tested it out at an empty parking lot going over some speed bumps. Went at about 10 mph over the bumps and the rack popped off again. Maybe it's the weight distribution but the arms that hang off the tire look too short to accommodate the weight of the bikes. And we testing it out 2, not 3 bikes.

Piece of crap. Do not purchase this product.
