About Allen Sports
Dick Allen (pictured left in 1972) started Allen Sports in his garage in 1967. Since its founding, the company has been committed to producing the highest-quality, easiest-to-use bike racks and bicycle related products on the market. Dick, a onetime aerospace engineer, opened Allen Sports after building a prototype bike carrier in his Lincoln, Massachusetts shop in his free time. The first ever trunk-mounted bicycle carrier--made of electrical conduit, metal strapping, and fire hose casings (for padding) -- was refined on weekend excursions to Cape Cod. Shortly afterward, Allen took his design to market, and by 1971 had established a national presence for his product.
Today, the family owned company operates four warehouses nationally, six factories abroad, and sells products in countries around the world including USA, Mexico, Canada, and China.

See my pictures to observe how well it's aging and handling the constant sun exposure and very frequent use. We leave the bike rack on year round and rarely ever take it off. You can see the red handle has finally succumb to the sun and a piece broke off recently, but otherwise it hasn't affected functionality one bit. We ride our bikes 1-3 times a week, weather permitting. The tilt function constantly gets used to access the hatch door of the SUV for loading groceries, gear, etc. We even use this bike rack during the snow season when combined with the Yakima ski/board rack (see pic). Everything is holding up quite well, all things considered!
My thoughts on the bike rack design: I love the simplicity of this bike rack. I actually like that it doesn't have those seat-tube stabilizers as they always just got in the way when taking my bikes off and on with previous racks. If you want to keep your bikes from swing during the car's braking and acceleration, simply leave a bungee cord in the vehicle and use it to pin the bikes to the rack after strapping the bikes on. Easy. If there is any negatives, I would say the top swing arm (the U shaped arm that the bikes rest on) has a little play on the down position so you can hear it clanking around a bit when accelerating from a stop light.
For the price, this is an easy 5 star rating from me. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
