Downsides:

1) the strain relief on the cord, as shipped, was cracked and useless. There is evidence of silicon seal on it as well. These are a new model for Amazon, so perhaps this is simply a pre-production issue. See picture. The box only barely fits the lamp, so the cord is laid flat and at the least, this over compressed the strain relief and cracked it all the way around - or it was not inserted well enough when manufactured. It appears they are hand cut - note the uneven edges on the strain relief on the side away from the fixture.

2) The cord is about 1 foot in lengh. This is only useful if you are hanging the fixture directly below a power source such as a ceiling box. In a buildout that's fine - but if you need to plug it in or reach a box further than 1 foot away, you'll need to splice it or install a box with a cord feedthrough. A 6-foot cord would not have added any significant cost and made it far more useful for a variety of applications.

Having said that - this light is very good. It consumes 150 watts, but has quite a lot of illumination. I am using it over a garage workbench to provide plenty of light over a work area instead of relying on tabletop illumination or the overhead light. I can see this being used outside as well, to light up specific areas - patios, play area, carports, etc.

It's built very heavy duty - huge cooling fins and the hanging hook is awesomely heavy duty.

The cord length issue can be addressed. The strain relief issue is more concerning - from a weatherproofing perspective it could be a problem. If I was using this outside, I would stabilize the cord (from wherever I hung it from) and apply a liberal amount of silicon seal. It's not an issue for indoor use though.

I gave it 4 stars for it overall, though if I could have done half stars, I would give it a 3.5 for the cord problems.

This light is moderately heavy, with a decent amount of surface area on the fins for heatsinking. This is very important for high powered LED fixtures, as the heat is generally what causes the electronics to fail before the LED die actually fails. This light has an average amount of heatsinking, but it is noticeably less than the other (more expensive) LED UFO highbay that AmazonCommercial makes. I suspect this is the reason that the other light (with more heatsinking) has a longer expected lifetime than this light (the more expensive light is rated for 50,000 hours while this light is only rated for 30,000 hours). In addition, this is not just a theoretical impact. I have tested the other light, and it came up to a temperature of about 120F after running for a couple hours. On this light, I found a temperature of over 150F after only 30 mins. of running.

Note that this light does NOT have dimming capability. It is only on or off. Also, it only comes with a wire pigtail -- you need to either hardwire it into a switched circuit, or wire in a standard power cord so you can use it on a switched outlet (this is what I did).

The cover over the LEDs is glass and not plastic, which is important in this case because the LEDs are so bright they do give off quite a bit of heat. This is so bright you can actually use it as a heat lamp if you are within about 1ft of the lights -- and this is just from the illumination, not the heatsinks!

Also note that this listing includes only the LED fixture. There is a built-in folding hanging loop, but there are no hanging chains, reflector domes, etc. included. Also, in addition to the hanging loop, there are four threaded holes in the back of the unit that can accept #10-32 bolts, if you want to attach custom hanging hardware. Obviously, you need to make sure your hanging hardware can handle the heat (it is in direct contact with the heatsink), and you need to ensure there is adequate space/airflow above the light for heat dissipation.

There is some heat-shrink just outside the light. I am not sure what this is about, or what it's for. There is a cable gland coming out of the light fixture, and then there is a short section of heat-shrink. Almost like they intended the heat-shrink to serve as a strain relief, but picked the wrong model of cable gland that was too small to fit the heat-shrinked wire portion. Just a suspicion on my part...

Overall, the other AmazonCommercial highbay LED fixture is absolutely of superior quality, but it is also much more expensive. This light represents a good value option (as long as you don't need the dimming feature) that should still last quite a long time.
