If you can't get enough cosmic story telling, this is the book to read! Annihilation Conquest picks up right after the Annihilation war and continues the adventures of Nova and the Guardians of the Galaxy...without getting into details, this book & # 2 as well as the Guardians of the Galaxy series of books & War of Kings will keep you going for some time.

Finally found the book in perfect condition for a fantastic price. This rounds out my Marvel "cosmic" collection. Truly would recommend the entire Annihilation run to anyone that likes Guardians Of The Galaxy or comics like The Silver Surfer.

Annihilation was an overall good event, but I felt it didn't quite live up to the scale it set up for itself. This time round my wishes have so far come true as the story is massive and all encompassing. This volume is the first half of the event made up of a select few tie-in series. I will review each of these individually then average all the totals for final scores.
Annihilation: Conquest Prologue
A damaged universe is unprepared when the Phalanx strike. Peter Quill, Quasar and a few others barely survive to fight back. Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning know how to set up a story. The Phalanx are menacing, and their mission will terrify. Mike Perkin's art is great. He really handles the action well. This is a strong start, and I can't wait to read more.
5/5
Annihilation: Conquest-Quasar
Quasar and Moondragon have survived the Phalanx attack and are now on a mission to find a mysterious savior for the captive Kree. It won't be easy, as the Phalanx are after them quickly. Christos Gage writes all these characters well, and definitely tells a more personal story. Who the savior ends up being is great and I won't spoil it. Finally, Mike Lilly's art is a fantastic addition. He does a great job with alien concepts.
4/5
Annihilation: Conquest, Star-Lord
Kieth Giffen returns from Annihilation to continue the story of Peter Quill, the former Star-Lord. Surviving the Phalanx attack, Peter leads a team of Kree prisoners on suicide mission to save the Empire. This story is the root of what will become Abnett and Lanning's Guardians of the Galaxy. Timothy Green is a great artist, and his drawings of the Phalanx might be my favorite. I was happy Giffen returned to the Cosmic Marvel, and he deserves just as much respect as Abnett and Lanning.

This was an incredible beginning to an event that seems poised to be epic. This volume was all tie-ins, but with how good they were I can only imagine the main spectacle to be great. I look forward to the next volume. These scores don't average perfect, but I've decided on a final score.

A grand collection of cosmic characters
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 3, 2010Verified Purchase
Annihilation Conquest is, in my opinion, even better than the first Annihilation Saga. Marvel has assembled a grand collection of previously defunct, Bronze Age cosmic characters to battle a new threat of cosmic proportions.
In the wake of devastation caused by the "Annihilation Wave", the galaxy is in turmoil and easy prey for another attack. And the evil techno race known as The Phalanx are more than happy to oblige. On one front is Moondragon and Phyla-Vell, daughter of Captain Mar-Vell and the new Quasar.
Also entering the fray are some of Marvels classic cosmic characters assembled by the Kree to stave off the Phalanx invasion. This eclectic group of Bronze Age cosmic veterans includes Starlord, Mantis, Rocket Raccoon, Captain Universe, the Space Knights and Groot, the giant talking tree from Planet X. Also turning up after a long absence is Adam Warlock. Together they take on the Phalanx and those the Phalanx now control, including an army of near indestructible "Sentries" and The Super Adaptoid.
The "Starlord" segment by Keith Giffen is one of the coolest stories I have read in some thirty years of reading comics. Regardless of how familiar one is with the characters is irrelevant. This is a very entertaining read. However, if you, like me have been reading comics since the early 70s, you'll be very happy to see these characters again and the story will be even more rewarding.
Forget Civil War, forget World War Hulk, forget Secret Invasion and forget the death of Captain America. Marvels cosmic epics are where the real action is. A lot of fun. Highly recommended.

If you are a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy then this is a must have book. It shows how they began. Thrown together and facing insurmountable odds.
If you are not a fan it is still highly entertaining as we see the pieces come together for an even bigger event in book 2.

This is the series that movie is based upon and has the same wry humor and great story line as the original Guardians Series. A great precursor to the initial Guardian run and a must read if you've seen the movie.
