Astrology, a place in chaos Paperback – Aug. 15 2006
Enhance your purchase
Astrology has been open to criticism through a large part of its long history. In this groundbreaking book Bernadette Brady gives new insights in the intensity of these criticisms by placing astrology into its initial setting, its original world of ancient creation myths linked to the great creative void. Modern chaos theory has now rediscovered this void and Brady maps astrology to chaos theory to produce "chaotic astrology". The result is an insight into fate, freewill and the nature of astrology itself implying that it is neither a science nor a religion, and suggests instead that astrology is an instrument of chaos, a fertile and pragmatic tool for understanding the patterns of life. Original and insightful as ever, Brady navigates the reader through a breath-taking journey which can change forever the way one views the world.
About the Author
Bernadette Brady is a professional astrologer who holds a Masters degree in Cultural Astronomy and Astrology from Bath Spa University, England. Her research work in fixed stars is contained in her innovative book Brady's Book of Fixed Stars (Samuel Weiser, 1998) in which she suggests a return to the visual use of stars. From these ideas Bernadette co-authored the visual astrology software package Starlight (Zyntara Publications 2002). Bernadette's journey continues in this new book. Her other books are: Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and the Lark (Weiser, 1992 & 1998), now heralded as a classic, and Astrology, a place in chaos (The Wessex Astrologer 2006) which is her Masters dissertation, on the mapping of chaos theory and complexity science to astrology. Bernadette is also the co-author of research astrological software Jigsaw (Astrolabe 1994, 1999).

Excellent - in fact quite brilliant, as one expects from Bernadette Brady!

Good oneReviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 14, 2022
Its great, but her later work is more concise, easier to read and has added depth, no doubt owing to added years for wisdom. If you never read her, read her latest published works first, imho.
Challenge your perceptionsReviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on April 15, 2011
Science vs. spirituality are ways of looking at Astrology or defining it. This book doesn't take either side yet in a way it takes both. It is a way to think about it as well as by doing so perhaps change in ones thinking. If you are the type of person who questions the why of events- and wants even more of a reason than a definition, here's a good one for you. The book challenges you to look at Cosmos and Chaos side by side. I particularly like how strange attractor is explained, and the edge of chaos. Really interesting to read and re read.

finally a workable paradigm for astrologyReviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 15, 2008
I've been studying and practicing astrology for close to 40 years. Astrology a place in chaos presents a workable paradigm for the practice of astrology. Astrologers no longer have to get into debates about whether or not astrology is scientific. We no longer need to borrow from psychology or statistics to validate our craft
