A pirate queen trapped in the realm of Faerie, Rosamunde can be freed only by true love. The man she loved is lost to her forever, so she believes herself doomed. Padraig, long in love with Rosamunde, believes his life worthless since she disappeared. When he hears of her capture by the fey, he is determined to set her free, but can Rosamunde put the past behind her and learn to love anew?

Not so much fun

I've only read one of the 'Jewels of Kinfairlie' books but really enjoyed it and the character of Rosumunde. This didn't really do her justice and I was disappointed really. I'm aware that it is difficult to develop things between two characters very far in such a short story but honestly it was a little pointless. I am glad Rosumunde got her happy ending but I think a less contrived story would have been kinder to her and Padraig. Something simpler, with a little more interaction between them would have been more enjoyable.

A whimsical love story

The Ballad of Rosamunde is a conclusion of Rosamunde’s story. She appears in the first three of the Jewels of Kinairlie series to help the Lammergeier siblings along with the two last books of the The Rogues of Ravensmuir series. This is also a good stand-alone book, so don’t think you need to read them all to understand this story. In The Rose Red Bride Rosamunde returns to Ravensmuir, her “cousin” Tynann’s holding, to declare her feeling for him. Her Shipmate, Padraig, tells Rosamunde: “I always said that you saw farther than most, but could not see what was before you own eyes.” Rosamunde enters Ravensmuir’s caverns and confronts Tynann, and in the process angers a Spriggan named Darg. Darg screams so loud Ravensmuir collapses in on itself. Rosamunde see a light and follows it into the Domain of the Faerie. This is where her ballad begins.
Padraig is so heartbroken that he lost the love of his life in the collapse that he returns to his village in Ireland. One night while sitting in the pub and drowning his sorrows, he hears a musician sing about the beautiful Rosamunde who lives with the King of the Fairies. Padraig goes in search to see if there is any truth in the tale and meets the Faerie Queen who is jealous of Rosamunde. The Queen helps Padraig enter the land of Faerie and retrieve his love.
This is a whimsical love story and lovely conclusion to Rosamunde’s story. It was not one of Ms Delacroix’s better stories, in my opinion.
