5.0 out of 5 stars You will want to keep this book to hand down to through each generation.

Beautiful book, hard cover with a soft cover feel and gold paper edging really makes this special. Colorful pictures and all our old time favorite nursery rhymes plus newer ones. My son thought this book was a lot more expensive than what I paid for it. Highly recommend this book. During covid-19 with this book in hand, I would facetime my 2 year old granddaughter and read and sing some favorites with her, of course adding in actions also. It's made this time special for the 2 of us to share this book in this way. Not to forget the wonderful index for finding favorites and attached book marker!

5.0 out of 5 stars The only bedtime storybook you’ll ever need

My two little grandsons (2 and 3 years) adore this wonderful collection of short stories and rhymes. It really is an absolute treasure trove — beautifully illustrated and with enough variety to entertain little ones from the age of about 18 months to 5 years.

Every page is an adventure. From traditional fairytales (Goldilocks, Hansel and Gretel, Puss and Boots, etc.) to classic fables (The Lion and the Mouse, The Tortoise and the Hare, Chicken Little, etc.), to modern tales featuring favorites such as pirates, princesses, unicorns, and countless animals (see photos for full list of contents).

Then there are dozens of little ditties and rhymes — many of them ones I used to have recited to me as a child. What a joy to share these again 60 years on! I’m having the time of my life, and so are my wee boys. You’d be amazed how quickly 2 and 3 year-olds pick up a four- or six-line verse — so much to capture and fire their imaginations.

I like very much that the fairytales and fables are kept deliberately short so as not to challenge the attention span of the targeted age-group. None take longer than 5 to 6 minutes to read. But, importantly, all the key facts are retained. I’ve seen too many traditional tales abridged to the detriment of the story — not here though.

In terms of physical look and feel, the book is a sturdy hardback with a padded cover and a fancy silver edging on the pages, which are glossy and colourful. Shape-wise, it’s fat and dumpy, rather than a large format picture book. In an ideal world, I’d prefer the latter, as it’s easier to look at with a child on either side of you, but I’m not going to nitpick. This is a beautiful book, which will grace my grandsons’ bookshelf for years to come. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. Check out my Amazon profile page for more reviews of toddler books and puzzles and educational toys and games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth every penny! Beautiful book

An absolute treasure. One of the best things I have ever bought. I hope this lasts for years. Bought this for my 4 year old who loves to read before bed and since when I was little I loved fairytales so I bought him this as he likes his rhymes too. Just to say this book is very well made, good quality you can just tel and it is jam packed (but not heavy at all) with different stories and classic and new ones I can't wait to read with him! We have already read goldilocks and the three bears only getting it today. It is really what it says "a padded treasure". Illistrations are beautiful and no two pages are the same! Worth every single penny.

A very well presented book packed with hundreds of classic children stories and rhymes, some I remember more than others (probably my age). The book has a padded hard cover and finished with silver edging to the paper. The paper is good quality, with a smooth sheen finish and is nice to the touch. The text is clear font, easy to read or follow along and accompanied with well drawn illustrations. All in all there is a lot to like about this collection of stories. The quality is sturdy and looks like it will stand the test of time. The book is smaller than I expected, but given its thickness that is probably a good thing if being held for a while. Our 8 month old loves being read to and looking at the pictures. It has easily become one of the favourites at bedtime for all ages. I recommend it.
