Meet Mike Berenstain
Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable
bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too. Though Stan died in 2005, and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create Berenstain Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania.

Meet Stan and Jan Berenstain
Stan and Jan Berenstain began writing and illustrating books for children in the early 1960s, when their two sons, Michael and Leo, were young readers themselves. They lived on a hillside in Bucks County, Pennsylvania - a place that looks a lot like Bear Country.

The Living Lights Series

The Berenstain Bears celebrated their 50th Anniversary in 2012.
Stan and Jan Berenstain were already successful cartoonists for magazines and adult humor books when they began writing children's books. The first story starring the bear family, The Big Honey Hunt, appeared in 1962. Since then, more than 370 Berenstain Bears books have been published, and more than 300 million copies have been sold. What began as an idea sparked by their young sons' love of reading has become over the years arguably the best-selling children's book series ever.
Since their inception, the Berenstain Bears stories have expanded to include picture books, beginning readers, and chapter books--even a hit TV show on PBS. Writing and illustrating the books has become a Berenstain family affair. Mike joined with his parents as a creative team in the late 1980s. The Bear family has expanded over the years as well. Sister Bear arrived in 1974, and baby Honey joined the family in 2000.
Though Stan died in 2005 and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Berenstain Bear adventures from his studio in Pennsylvania.

It's clear that this book thinks prayer is a great idea and that prayer is powerful. It's just displayed in a lousy way to little children. As if Mama and Papa Bear weren't bad enough, towards the end of the story, a prayer incident comes into play with Brother Bear and Cousin Freddy. Cousin Freddy is trying to teach brother that sometimes the answer to a prayer is "no," sometimes it's "yes," and still sometimes it's "not right now." This whole "lesson learning" opportunity essentially gets over-looked because the whole story should have been written based on Brother Bear and Cousin Freddy's discussion about their life lesson, instead of just throwing some details about the story on a couple of pages. Instead, the largest portion of this book consisted of the grownups whining. No one likes a whiner, especially when it comes to one in classics like the Berenstain Bears.
When I ordered this book, for a more than reasonable price from a seller on Amazon, I had my hopes set really high that it was going to be so inspirational, heart-felt, and full of gratitude. Boy was I wrong! It's not a completely horrible book because after all it is a Berenstain Bear Book. I thought that Say Their Prayers would become one of my favorite titles to read to my son. When looking at the book now, it's not one I would never read again, yet it's not one I would recommend to anyone either. All in all, The Berenstain Bears are awesome and they have been providing hours and hours of a endless amount of joy to folks of all ages. I'm going to keep The Berenstain Bears Say Their Prayers because it goes ever so nicely with our Fifty+ Berenstain Bear Book Collection. Yet, if you are not into the collecting of all the Berenstain Bear titles, than I recommend you get a different book.
