To be clear to potential readers, this is not a book about theology. It does not make judgments about whether any religion is true, so you should not get defensive about your own beliefs. Rather, it treats the Bible as ancient literature that has been handed down to us through multiple edits, rewrites, and translations. As the author points out, not only do translated words and phrases carry different connotations in different languages, languages themselves are constantly changing. Even the English of King James time has different connotations in our era, if modern readers can understand it all. Add to that constant re-interpretation, and it becomes easy to conflate the Bible text with popular interpretations, some of which are mistaken and some are deliberate twisting of the words to fit preconceived ideas. The author does a good job of separating the wheat from the chaff.
