I was very impressed by the great illustrations in this book. Colorful and eye
drawing they gave a clear picture of the words you were reading. Very nice job!
The story is about a little girl named Ariel and her mother Carlotta who flys balloons.
Ariel wanted to be with her mother on the day of the big race and she stowed away, not telling her Mother.
This is where the fun begins as Ariel and her Mom battle to win the race and Ariel ends up in the lake. A cute read, one you will enjoy reading to your child.

HALL OF FAMETOP 1000 REVIEWERVINE VOICE
Based on the true life adventures of the famous balloonist Myers family of the late 1800s, this tells a tale of the mother participating in a balloon race and the daughter's accidentally stowing away and coming along for the trip. The story seems a little bigger than life and I wouldn't believe it to be fact but it is an interesting introduction to this family, hot-air ballooning and independent women of the Victorian age. Cute folk art type illustrations add to the appeal.

Great book

This is a great book and my 7 year old still pulls it off the shelves to read even though she's outgrown it. My only complaint is the paper it's printed on...it's a newspaper quality and the words an rub if you run your finger over it. That's obviously not ideal for a kids book. The story, however, is a classic!

Great story, fun history, strong female leads

This is such a great kids book. I purchased it to read to my nearly two and three year olds and they love it (the three year old somewhat more, of course). It has a great, unique story that unveils a fascinating piece of history many would not be aware of. I enjoyed the strong female characters, the famous aeronaut Carlotta and her adventurous daughter Ariel. Great all-around story for everyone.

Hot Air Balloon - Travel

My students have seen these in our area in the fall (when we usually do our transportation unit) so they knew what it was (a balloon!). They enjoyed the brightly color pictures & the story wasn't too much for them. I would reccommend it to any teacher for their library - there aren't that many books written about this form of travel.

Fairly Uninteresting Story; Hard to Care About the Heroines

Not a very exciting story. Read it to grandkids ages 4 and 6 and I doubt that they'll ever want to hear it again. Too much they don't understand or care about. Boring.

Great story

As my daughter continues her progress in reading, these easy chapter books are the perfect books for practice, and we both love the historical stories that are often biographical or factual. This story is a true story that we both love.
