Initially when our 5 y/o unwrapped this book, and it looked so plain and boring, he put it right down again - and then later on, we sat down and read it together. Then the magic really happened!
The book itself is short (there's no story or plot as such), it's very simple but clever - you as the reader, have to read everything in the book, aloud and get into character with funny voices where required for maximum effect - including calling yourself a monkey, all the silly nonsense words, noises and so on. Kids love it when big people do silly stuff, make silly noises and call themselves silly names.
This is a 'silly' book for 10 minutes of priceless fun and laughter with your little one(s) - not a peaceful storytime book with a plot - and it's great at providing those smiles and laughter. If you don't mind making yourself look a bit silly, and enjoy your kids laughter then I'd heartily recommend this book - the simple idea behind it really works :)
I'd say this book would be most entertaining and funny for kids probably 3 up to about 8-9.
The only minor complaint I'd have about this book is that it's quite short - both me and the kids wanted the fun to carry on a bit longer!
I thought it was cute and would get it for my kids- you need someone with personality and a flair for the theatrical to read it!
Daughter did too when she read it at the school library a couple years ago. So we got it, not so much for her as she is reading at a much higher level, but she has read it a number of times to her stuffies as she pointed out to me "they are a lot smaller and can't read for themselves".
To the readers: it helps to become really animated while reading this book!!

By the end of the second reading my son declared it "the funniest book ever" and he has a lot of books and has read and been read to a lot.
Buy it, you won't regret it and by the end you too will probably be crying with laughter.
My child is aged 7 years.
Got it for my 6.5 year old and he literally wet himself laughing. I appreciate this may not be the ideal outcome most people want but to me this fact alone says buy it. I have read it to him three times already since he opened it 10 minutes ago, and he is now reading it to himself :-) One happy boy.
