My grandson loves ballet. He hates soccer! All the boys in school tell him that ballet is for girls. Well, yes, he is the ONLY boy in his ballet school, and probably the only ballet boy in the entire county, but he does love it so. Ballet is every bit as athletic as any field sport, if not more so. So this book was a boost to him and he brought it to his ballet class to share with his teacher. And I am so proud of him when I see him dance. He doesn't have any great talent, but he sure does love it.
My son absolutely loves this book. We bought it a year ago (he was 4 then) and still read it at leats twice a week. He loves ballet, and this book shows him the ballet is for boys as well. Wish there would be more books like this!
I loved using this book to get my son prepared for his first dance class. I also leave it out around the house so family members and visitors can see it before the judge me for putting my son in dance :).
I'm a choreographer and former professional dancer as is my wife and this book was very welcome in our home. It took away already preconceived stigmas about dance in our 3 year old boy who now jumps and turns like a proper Barishnikov!
The multiracial aspect of the characters also was welcome and representative of a changing world.
I bought this book after a friend said she had gottenit. As a dance teacher/studio owner I am always looking for dance books for the littles. When the book arrived, we had just transitioned back to online classes. I took this out to show a class of 4.5 to 8 year olds. One dancer was an african american little boy who loves everything dance. I showed the page with the 5 positions and when he saw the dancer in first position his face lit up, he smiled and stood up a little straighter. My heart filled up and I had to supress a tear. His mom ended up purchasing the book too. This book is so well illustrated and flows well.
This book follows boys in a ballet class and highlights great male concert dancers. It is so thoughtfully composed and perfect for any family that wants to raise their kids with a full picture of what girls and boys can do. As a ballet teacher myself, I lament that there are not more young boys in my classes because I know they would enjoy it just as much! I have a 3-year-old boy myself who will be starting ballet soon and he loves this book. Thank you!
I bought this book for my 5-yr old grandson, who has been taking dance lessons for about 6 months, and danced in the Nutcracker for the first time over the Christmas season. He paid attention while I was reading the book, but wasn't enthused about it. Still, I think it's a good book for beginner boy dancers.
