If you are a fan of Grace Livingston Hill works, you will love this novel! The children are perfect and the five-year-old is obviously very precocious because although she was an orphan, she can read a book! Never mind that in the 19th century most children and did not start school until 7 or 8 years old! Characters are flat. The plot is very workable, could even be interesting with the right kind of characters and information. The author takes up space describing what they ate for breakfast. And sums up months of campaigning and life in a paragraph! I skipped a whole chapter and I'm pretty sure I didn't miss a thing.
I truly appreciated that the work was clean from sexuality and foul language. Most of the characters that had very high moral standards even before having a relationship with Jesus Christ.

An uplifting story

I highly enjoyed A Bride for Cameron. The plotline was clever, and the characters well-written. Cameron is a good man who makes some poor choices and has to live with the consequences. I enjoyed watching him develop and work through his decisions about what to do. Hannah is a gracious woman of great integrity, but not judgmental. Her strong faith and gracious spirit affects everyone around her. The author does a great job of evoking the era through dialect and description. The book is a quick read, but not “fluff,” as themes of God’s love and grace, forgiveness, and second chances are woven throughout.

No marriage should start out with a lie and yet that’s exactly what happened. How can anyone trust a man with political ambitions if he is going to try to deceive everyone about his mail order bride including her! I like that Hannah is a Christian and tells him straight up that she will not lie to others to deceive them to help his political career,

Not a Bad Story
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on June 4, 2021Verified Purchase
This was a good story, but it had some weak points. Situations would be mentioned, but then they were dropped with no resolutions. One example of this was when Hannah and Chole planned to go shopping but wondered how the town’s residents would treat Chole, who had a poor reputation. This wasn’t mentioned again. And for such a small town, Cameron knew little about it, although he’d lived there for years. He didn’t know the livery owner, and he didn’t know the barber’s name or that he lived above his shop. It also had a few grammatical mistakes, like “to take in Georgie and I.” Overall, however, it wasn’t a bad story.
