The Burley Basics
Every Burley trailer comes equipped with a Steel Hitch, Tow-Bar and Tow-Bar Mount. In most cases this is all you will need to safely connect the trailer to your bicycle. In some cases you may need a Burley Thru Axle adapter.
Step 1: What's a Thru Axle?
First, identify if your bike uses a Thru Axle on its rear wheel. As pictured, Thru Axles are thick and hollow, and common on newer bicycles with disc brakes, especially mountain bikes. Stock Thru Axles are not able to accommodate any sort of axle mounted hitch system. The Burley Thru Axle adapter is a requirement for any axle mounted hitch system with a bike that has a 12mm thru axle. If you are unsure about your axle type please consult with your local bike shop.
Step 2: Thread Pitch
After determining that your bike uses a Thru Axle, the next step is to choose the appropriate Burley Thru Axle adapter. This depends on the thread pitch and length of your axle. Check the thread pitch of your current axle by comparing it to the illustrations here. If you are unsure of the correct thread pitch, please consult with the manufacturer of your bike, or your local bike shop before purchasing a Burley Thru Axle adapter.
Steps 3-4: Axle Length & Thru Axle Selection
Next, using a ruler, measure the length of your current axle according to the illustrated method. Measure to the end of the threads. If you are unsure of the correct axle length, please consult with the manufacturer of your bike, or your local bike shop before purchasing a Burley Thru Axle adapter.
Lastly, use the axle length and thread pitch measurements to determine which model of Thru Axle you need from the chart below. If your axle length is not shown for the thread pitch you have, Burley does not currently offer a compatible Thru Axle adapter for you.

It works to perfection. I've pulled my trailer at capacity (100 pounds) with no problem.
