Adapted from Jack London's beloved literary classic, The Call Of The Wild vividly brings to life the story of a big-hearted dog named Buck, and John Thornton (Harrison Ford), the man Buck must learn to trust. Abruptly uprooted from his pampered lifestyle in sunny California, Buck finds himself in the exotic wilds of the Alaskan Yukon. As the newest dog on a mail delivery sled team during the turbulent Gold Rush days of the 1890s, Buck has left behind a once comfortable life for one of hardship and survival. Life again changes dramatically for Buck when he meets Thornton, a loner-turned-adventurer, and it's clear that the two are destined to experience the adventure of a lifetime. Navigating through an environment that is as unforgiving as it is spectacular, the journey profoundly transforms both man and dog. With its unique blend of intense live action and cutting-edge animation, The Call Of The Wild is a visually stunning experience featuring realistic, emotionally authentic characters.

It was so obvious to me how much the Hollywood filmmakers who produced this movie intentionally avoided mentioning Canada, the Yukon territory, the Klondike, and the Mounties. That being said, there was a two second clip showing a Mountie in his iconic red serge uniform and that was it for the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP). Unlike the lawless American Old West the NWMP quickly set up checkpoints on the routes to Dawson City, the gold rush capital. Their strict enforcement of regulations — including the NWMP's requirement that prospectors bring enough provisions to last them a year on the Klondike — prevented many fortune seekers from dying by exposure and starvation. Criminals from Skagway, Alaska, were denied entry. The Klondike Gold Rush was orderly and relatively crime-free.
Jack London was an American author and journalist. He entered the Yukon in September of 1897 as a 21-year-old prospector looking for gold. While he didn't strike it rich, he later turned his Klondike adventures into fame and fortune with his legendary short stories and books. American author and journalist, best known for the adventure novels "White Fang" and "The Call of the Wild."
This said, let’s talk about the movie itself. They could not chose better actor than Harrison Ford for this one, he was made for this movie, he is perfect. All is simply beautiful. It caries so much deep values about animals, wildlife, humans, friendship, respect, courage, bravery and true love that it is truly amazing. But what I liked the most, although you can clearly see the both, was that they chose to tell the story through the eyes of the dogs instead than through the eyes of the humans. The image is incredibly stunning, it’s even reminding us of the existence of the second biggest natural wild reserve of the world, our Canadian Wood Buffalo Park. For me, it is one of the most wonderful movie made for the family for a very long time. It’s new, for a lot of people had forgotten that classic, it is refreshing after all those super hero movie best sellers, it is the only one of all that has been made so far that could show the entire story of Buck without the dramatisation of his life which make it a better presentation for the youngest.
I do recommend this movie and all the reasons mentioned previously, I’m giving it a 5 stars.
This is an all around enjoyable, credible movie for young and beyond.
Many years after having read the story, and seen other movies of this classic, I can not really recall to what extent this movie duplicates the original story, but I can say that it gave a nice, fresh, new experience.
