There are a lot of things to like about 'Cardiology for Babies'. Foremost is the content. Dr. Ahmed carefully explains the four compartments of the heart and why each are important in a language that is easy to understand. While the book is designed as a board book for small children, the information it contains also works as a great starting point for older children (5-6 year olds). In my household we further explored the valves of the heart and why we have those after reading 'Cardiology for Babies'!
The illustrations used are perfect for the content. They are large, colourful and simple. It is easy to identify the compartment being discussed and visualize either where the blood has come from or is going. Additionally, the children depicted in the book are from diverse origins, which is fabulous. I wish all children's books were so aware!
Lastly, Dr. Ahmed incorporates a few basic experiments or 'try this at home' activities to help reinforce the information being shared and to make the book more hands on for young learners.
This is a perfect book to introduce some basic human biology. I will definitely be checking out some of the author's other 'Little Doctor' books.

Perfect for a kid who needs heart surgery

My 2.75 yr old is about to undergo her second open heart surgery for CHD. The first she was too young for us to explain anything but this time it's something she'll need to understand and ease nerves. We used it to show her the doctor fixed one side of her heart when she was a baby and now the doctor is going to fix the other side. It doesn't talk about surgery so you won't need to dwell n that part with this book. This book helped her understand that there is this wonderful organ inside her body and this is what it does and looks like.

Book is great - I wish it would have one page about congenital heart disease it’s the number one birth defect in the world. I also wish he might have a separate book regarding CHD that speaks to all CHDs as kids need this more normalized. It would be a best seller for sure.
