A hilarious and relatable collection of anecdotes about home renovations and repairs for anyone who’s ever thought, “Sure, I can do that!”
B.S. Harris, a mostly retired, self-proclaimed jack-of-all-trades with a knack for home improvements and creative money-saving schemes knows exactly what it’s like to hit a few challenges—and lose a few dollars—when tackling a project. Armed with a soldering gun, his trusty nine-foot ladder, and of course every handyman’s secret weapon—duct tape—his projects usually start out as simple chores but often turn into a costly disaster.
Sometimes he’s trying to do the right thing, like the time he wrecked his pool while saving some baby ducks. Other times, he channels his inner MacGyver: he once taped his hockey blade back onto his skate so he could finish his rec-league game, only to get suspended when it broke (again) for falling on the referee. But usually, he’s just trying to save a buck, like the time he accidentally destroyed an expensive car key fob because he wouldn’t pay the (outrageous) $10 fee to have the new battery professionally replaced, Brian’s life is often a costly comedy of errors.
Filled with funny and entertaining true stories from an average, relatable, everyday guy, The Cheap Handyman is sure to inspire you to pick up your toolkit and get fixing.

As a young handyman I understand, and can relate to a lot of the situations mentioned in this book. However the humour and facepalm moments give it a twist that I personally don't experience when doing my own projects. The writing style is rather informal compared to other books but that in itself made the book feel more like a conversation with an old buddy. I enjoyed every bit of it and would give it more stars if I could. I'd recommend this to anyone who works in trades or anyone who is or wants to be a handyman. There are things to learn in this book. Honestly I think anyone who wants a good laugh should read this. The stories are short, to the point and very entertaining.

Simple plans gone wrong. We can all relate!

This little book of misadventures is a real gem. For anyone who has owned a car, house or other equipment, we can see ourselves in most of these situations, and probably get reminded of our own disasters. Mostly the damage is to the ego and the wallet, so in the end we can laugh along with the author. The biggest lesson seems to be, you have to tackle these everyday challenges with a sense of humour. Hopefully there will be a second book that recounts some actual triumphs by our intrepid DIY’er!
