Roberts really is going downhill (and I speak as someone who loved her earlier works). This trilogy really is two books worth of material at most. There’s so little plot and so much padding. I think if she’d written this as a stand alone book it would have worked so much better. But it’s bloated and overly long. Spoilers ahead…

The characters are mostly forgettable. There’s no spark or chemistry between Breen and Keegan. Neither are especially memorable or interesting and their romance is dull and unconvincing. Marco is a much more interesting character (as are Sally and Derick but they’re pretty much ignored). The “Oirish” stereotypes are out in full-force, I really wish Roberts would be less cliched when writing about the Irish.

The dragons are once again woefully ignored. Roberts tells us of an incredible bond between dragon and rider but does nothing to show that. Even the death of dragons is skipped over. The dog gets more character development than what should be amazing awe-inspiring creatures. And, speaking of which… Every-time I read the dogs name (“Bollocks”) I wince. What on earth are Roberts and the publishers thinking calling a dog “Bollocks” in a novel set in Ireland?

The finale is very long in coming and is underwhelming and over too quickly. Then the inevitable “happy ever after” ending is skimmed over. I want to know more about the characters. How does Brian get over the death of his dragon? Do Sally and Derick visit Talmah? Do Breen and Keegan ever develop chemistry? But no, after three bloated books this is all ignored.

There are some really good Nora Roberts romance and supernatural trilogies. This is not one of them.

I enjoyed books 1 and 2, the idea of a magical world had me hooked. Overall I loved the characters. Book 3 was written with stereotypical Irish wording, which made it difficult to read. I found myself reading over again to get the meaning. Very repetitive throughout the book. Repeating what people say over again, and explaining the walk from one world to another exactly the same other than the weather. The conclusion was rushed and I felt so let down after reading 3 books. A battle, loss of loved ones, a sort of proposal and a view of their future was crammed into the last 10% of the book. After investing in 3 books I would have liked to see how the characters moved forward.

A really fab final book in the trilogy - absolutely loved all the characters, was so invested and emotional, and enjoyed how it all tied up, even with the bittersweet sadness of losing a beloved character. Feel a bit disappointed in the end as was really hoping to have seen a few more bits from some of the characters to finish it off, eg Marco and Brian's wedding, Sally and Derrick, Marg too finding some peace after it all. I did enjoy this one, just feel a little left wanting!

What a beautiful trilogy. I was sorry when it ended. I wish there was an index in the front or back telling me how to pronounce those Irish names and words though! The other comment I have is regarding the dogs name. I cringed every time I read it because in the United Kingdom and Ireland, Bollocks is another word for testicles.
