Judith E. Glaser is the CEO of Benchmark Communications, Inc., and the Chairman of The Creating WE Institute, whose clients include American Airlines, American Express, Cisco, Coach, Exxon, and IBM. Judith has served as an Adjunct Professor at Wharton and a visiting guest speaker at Harvard, Kellogg, Loyola, University of Chicago, NYU, and various other institutions. She has appeared on NBC’s Today Show, ABC World News, The Fox News Channel, and CBS Morning News. What an amazing book! After reading it I was motivated to raise my conversational intelligence in my day to day interactions with friends and co-workers. Judith Glaser explains in detail how open and honest conversation on your thoughts and feeling leads to increased trust with those around you. I used the techniques outlined in the book to approach everyone I knew and tell them exactly what I was thinking. Almost immediately noticed a change in how I perceived, and was perceived, by others. A week later I was told that my honesty was making others nervous and promptly fired from my job but I felt real trust from my manager during the dismissal meeting. Would highly recommend!

This is a great book for those who want to raise their leadership abilities through higher conversations. I apply these skills with my clients and have found that it has changed how they converse with others. Building trust is at the forefront of great leadership, and it can only happen when those you lead feel heard and that they have a voice that matters. Judith Glaser has created incredible changes in conversations as a whole.

In the last couple years we have realized that emotional intelligence trumps intellectual intelligence and to a big extent this book, I think tries to add something to the genre but falls far short.
This is a pointed review because I need my books to start quick and end fast.
I am tough this way- especially for business books, if I cannot get a feel and know something I didn't by 10% in, I chuck the book. As 80-90% of the time I am right that the book is a waste of time- why waste half a day or several hours on something that you wouldn't give 20 mins to if you had a conversation with the author.
If you are a business reader that likes to get maybe 1 or 2 sentences that may help in some situations in an entire book- then you may like this.
But very early on savvy readers will realize that the point of the book is to sell a seminar. My marketing hairs on the back of my neck went up with the first TM (trademark) symbol- after that it was down hill from there. Like all books that are trying to sell you something else other than the book always falls short. ALWAYS.
the author is adept at content "spinning" that is words for word count- go to her benchmark communications inc website and actually read the content- filler and marketing/consultant speak mumbo jumbo. And by saying this I don't think I am "boiling the ocean" moving forward with this review.
15% of the book is where I quit. bottom line the book needs a re-write- I don't care about trademark this or that- it smacks of desperate arrogance. Tone down the marketing speak, kill the idea that this book is your readers gateway drug and focus on REAL DEFINITE steps on how, exactly and early on how to fix their listening and conversation skills.
Look at it this way- if the author thinks or knows they are so good then you will have much much more to say on the subject later, if you are good you are not a one hit wonder.
BUT let your book speak for you with value- after all they paid to read something on this subject.
*as an aside, ebooks read differently than traditional books- flipping around in a traditional book scanning where the good stuff starts is easy on an ebook it is impossible to very cumbersome- when you tell me you will tell me how to fix X in the second part, without telling me anything in the first- I cannot flip around- so I delete.

A really important topic, an area where many of us want and need to improve but this book provides little practical insight. Instead it is heavy with repetitive neuroscience and self-aggrandising stories from the author’s coaching practice. A few useful tools are presented and it’s a quick read hence two stars not one.

This is an amazing read I purchased an audio version to play at home and in the car. Its full of brilliant case studies for coaching backed up by neuroscience. I particularly love the 5 brains and the dashboard which I have used to great effect with clients particularly in career coaching
