There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
Good luck with that.
The coway is Wirecutter’s top choice while the Levoit is their budget pick. They’ve got it backwards, except the Coway is way more expensive! It may work faster to clear the air.. maybe in their tests, but my experience is the detection is SO bad that it’s seemingly constantly going off for the slightest dust kick up (my cat walks by) but NOT for cooking smells (PM 2.5s!!) which is most important for health. BUT there’s no way to tell because even the wifi model doesn’t tell you anything more than “good” to “unhealthy” air quality which is ZERO extra info to the light on top!!!
On top of that the wifi NEVER stays connected. I have to reconnect it every 24-48 hours and the app doesn’t even save the password or network. The only functionality the app has that the unit doesn’t is scheduling and that’s it!!
If you must go with the Coway do not bother with the wifi model. The app also regularly 404s and doesn’t remember my login.
Conversely, the Levoit wifi models are phenomenal with detailed PM2.5s & custom smart programming.
The Coway also is incredibly loud - both it’s lowest and especially it’s highest - it SHOOK a cabinet on its highest and sounded like it was going to explode, so I’m not surprised the fans break on these things.
On top of all this the light is unbearably bright, which you can turn off, but then what’s the point!
I also found it didn’t reduce smells much either, unlike some reviews promised.
Too bad I have to send it back! I was trying to treat myself to the “top end” air purifier but it feels and operates so cheap.
Oh, last poor point - there’s nothing to help you pick this thing up and move it around - the only spot to hold it pulls the filter cover off!

Setup was easy with the exception of connecting the device to WiFi. Because it only connects via a 2.4Ghz connection and not 5Ghz it failed to connect for several attempts. Eventually I was able to connect it to WiFi by setting up a "guest network" with my router (I use Google WiFi), which broadcasts at 2.4Ghz. After I did this, it connected seamlessly but it took me a while to troubleshoot the connection failures and search online to find a solution.
Once connected, the app has good device management features for turning the device on/off, changing the fan speed, putting it in auto or eco mode, or on a timer or schedule. Also, the app and device itself monitor the filters and tell you when you need to change them and clean them.
The reason I gave this product 4 stars rather than 5 is that the Coway ioCare app does not provide much in the way of air quality monitoring. For example, I want to know the pm2.5 levels in my room (i.e. dust). Presumably the device is monitoring that somehow with its sensors but the app only provides that information for outdoor air quality. I have an Awair air monitoring device that tells me pm2.5 levels, CO2, Chemicals, Humidity, and air temperature. I expected the Coway Airmega to provide this information, but it doesn't provide any information. The only information in the app about air quality is a generic graph that either says the air is healthy or not, but it doesn't indicate why or what the levels are.

When I purchased this, I also purchased an Air Quality Meter that could measure both particulates in the air, such as pollen, but also tVOCs. Now you may be wondering-- how do I know the meter works then? I tested that too! I made sure it responded to air vapors produced by chemical exposure, as well as by burning gas near it (I have a gas stove, which produces tVOCs simply by being used). With the meter proven working, I then tested this air filter.
After just an hour, this air filter took my normally pretty good air quality (particulates: 10-15, tVOCs of about 1) and improved the air significantly. Pollen, dust, and other particulates went down to a mere 1-2 (90% reduction!) and the air smelled notably... fresher? It was strange, not that the air smelled different so much as the air *didn't* smell at all. The change was so notable that my wife walked in and commented on it!
As for tVOCs, it wasn't as impressive (a 20% reduction in the same time) BUT let's be real-- there wasn't many tVOCs in the air to start with, so it might be less effective at scrubbing it out than if there were more. Even still, a 20% reduction in one hour? Not bad at all, and the numbers stayed as low (about 0.8) for as long as I ran the filter!
Going to order a second one

Update 3 days later: I got a message today from this air purifier this morning saying the wifi is spotty, and I checked the app again. Lo and behold, I can control the air purifier again via app, although when I try to go to the home page and check the "product location outdoor air quality", I get a pop-up saying "There is a system error" and the display is "Unable to receive information, please try again". Still, I'm pretty happy to see the depletion % for the filters again, which honest is half the reason why I wanted wifi connection in the first place. (+1 Star)
Update 1 week later: The wi-fi function has stopped working. This morning it became no longer connected, and no matter what I try, it will no longer connect to the wifi network. Sucks this functionality only worked for a week. Stuck on "Connecting to Wi-Fi. Please Wait", and then it tells me "Internet connection of the product is not complete" (-2 stars).
Normal living generates unpleasant smells, and I typically have to open the windows every day or every other day to air out. Since getting this air purifier, I haven't felt the need to open the windows in over a week. I can't smell anything unpleasant, and at mode 1, I can't hear this thing at all. On mode 2, this is still quieter than my air conditioner, and mode 3 (the loudest), it's about the same as my air conditioner. Also no complaints about the wifi controls. (5 Stars)
