TIPS:
1. MT-XR is used for outdoors. There are too many interferences indoors.
2. Detection is more complicated in the field, the detector would randomly sound even if there is no metal. By reducing sensitivity you can get rid of interference.
3. Wind the cable evenly around the stem about 6 laps.
4. It will send repeatable signals when the detecting is correct. You could read out the approximate target type and depth on the LCD screen.

Fantastic metal detector ...user friendly for all

Very easy to use and battery lasts for a long time. Purchased for teenage son. He has been using it on beaches and in school hard and finding lots of fun items. We haven't fine tuned the detector yet because we are quite new....and still he has found a spoon, various shotgun shells, and a ring.

Arrived on time for my husband's birthday, he couldn't wait to get out and use it. The detector was easily setup and calibrated. The first time out using the detector we went to an old farmstead and my husband found a 1920 Canadian five cent coin within a hour (we also found lots of old metal farm peices) he's hooked on metal detecting now, along with our children. We're looking at getting another metal detector (same one) and possibly even a third one for the whole family to go out detecting.

Love everything about it so far!
It’s lightweight as all heck, easy to assemble, waterproof and has accurate readings. I did an initial unboxing metal test, using metals I had around and they were pinging under the right sections perfectly.
The only thing is there isn’t a carrying case so that needs to be purchased separately, and the screen being unlit isn’t ideal for nighttime, but all in all I am extremely happy!
It’s so easy to maneuver being as light as it is, and the coil being waterproof is a big plus.

As a first time hunter, we found the detector easy to use. The buttons were easy to follow and you knew rough what and how deep the item was you found. Our kids found several lost coins at the school where we tried it for the first time. We have plans to check out other areas near us and we will see what we can find. So far, a good easy to use product for both adult and kids.

I took the MT-XR into my yard with my daughter. Within a half hours time we found a few current coins (non-silver), a silver charm from either an earring or a bracelet, and a pull tab from either the 70s or 80s. Detecting with the MT-XR was easy. I tried both discrimination and all metals mode, as well as the pin pointer since I don’t have a hand held yet. The pin pointer was dead on accurate with the absolute center of the coil.
So far the features on the MT-XR outweigh the pricey Ace 250 I was using before. It detects to deeper depths (10” versus 8” on the Ace 250). The MT-XR also has a backlight which is super helpful in bright light or dawn/dusk. Overall I definitely recommend my new DrOtek as a high level beginner or low intermediate level detector. It definitely suits my needs as a hobbyist and was fun and easy to use. Most importantly of all, it has proven itself to work with a few small finds within the first half hour of use. Can’t wait to get back out there and search around some old 1800s basement sites!

I have been looking for a new metal detector to replace my decade-old White’s detector and decided to try Dr. Otek’s MT-XR based upon specs and reviews. Having completed my research, I placed my online order and to my delight my new detector arrived at my door literally 36 hours later!
Eager to test the unit, I chose the closest park to home and searched an area I previously searched with my old detector. Not expecting many hits, this machine began to sing with tones within the coin range and clearly identified both value and depth. This machine was actually reaching deeper (more than 8”) and with greater accuracy than my other machine. I was blown away with how much I had missed in previous searches. Within 3 hours l accumulated more than 102 finds ($5.86 in coins) plus a 10k gold tie tack (see photo).
As you might guess, I’m totally impressed with both the quality & performance of Dr. Otek’s MT-XR. The product is quick to assemble and within minutes of glancing at the easy-to-read instruction manual I had it operational.
Constructed with lightweight materials, a waterproof coil, built-in pinpointer and a big touch display featuring icons discrimination/target IDs and more. In addition I appreciated the the ergonomic grip and proximity of the touch display that allows quick access of all controls. With this design element, I can operate the display with the sweep of single fingertip and verify the signal while still swinging the detector.
To complement my Dr. Otek’s MT-XR, I also use Dr. Otek’s companion hand held pinpointer to isolate my targets after the initial signal from the MT-XT (see photo) . In combination, Dr. Otek’s products deliver immediate results that have truly enhanced my search productivity and enjoyment as a casual treasure hunter.
Bottom line is that I would fully recommend Dr. Otek’s MR-XR to anyone seeking a quality metal detector with the latest technology at a great price. You will not be disappointed!

MT-XR detector is a high quality source of FUN!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 6, 2020Style: Single Metal DetectorVerified Purchase
I purchased several Dr. Ötek products around New Year's Day 2020 with my Christmas stash of Amazon gift cards: an MT-XR detector, an M-6 pinpointer, a digger tool, and a waterproof bag. All of these Dr. Ötek products are of very nice, high quality and even better than I expected after reading many favorable reviews that noted good material and build quality. I would also add good design and obvious thought given to ease of assembly, good ergonomics, and ease of use. Very well done with this MT-XR detector and also the other Dr. Ötek products mentioned.
For several years, I have been on the sidelines researching metal detecting as a possible pastime and hobby for leisure and fun in my retirement. Now, I am diving in or digging in with my older brother, also retired and looking for fun activities that get us moving and into the great outdoors more often.
This MT-XR detector may not be the Rolls Royce of detectors, but it is truly very good and it will definitely give you many, many hours of cheap and adventurous fun, especially if like me, you want to do some peaceful detecting and digging for that occasional "treasure" find in solitude or with a friend or family partner to comb over an old place for some unexpected finds and adventure that will not cost you a small fortune.
Accuracy in this price range and in even higher price ranges is sometimes hit or miss. The MT-XR has taken me to good and clear targets from 2 to 4 inches in the first day when testing it in our backyard. I must stress at this point that the pinpointer function in the detector is truly an excellent feature, and helped me a great deal in deciding whether it might be worth digging on a signal or not. However, combining the detector pinpointer with the great functions of the M-6 pinpointer to examine my holes dug and removed dirt, and alternating with the detector to confirm that I had dug the only buried source of the signal, the digging effort was made twice as fun and my confidence level twice as high. So, I highly recommend that you also get an excellent M-6 pinpointer or another high quality pinpointer to use along with this detector. And while I am at it and plugging or vouching for Dr. Ötek gear, I also recommend that you get an excellent digger tool like the Dr. Ötek, a Lesche, or other good, well-made and sturdy digger. Sincerely, you cannot go wrong with the Dr. Ötek. As a big guy, I would have to use some serious effort to bend or break it, but why would I try to? Sort of like seeing if I can bend my smartphone in half. Common sense dictates that everything has its eventual failure points. I want it to really last, and I think it will, if I take good care of it like any tool.
Within the first minute after I started up the new detector on all-metal and maximum sensitivity, in our backyard I found a 1982 penney (copper vs. zinc also in that year) at 2 inches. About 10 minutes later, I found a copper 1971 penney, also at 2 inches. I picked up many more signals (30+) indicating coins and possible silver to depths of 8 inches and deeper (probably 10 inches max). I may go after them later, but did not want to irritate my wife with too many holes and a totally dug up yard. I also ventured to our front yard to test various discrimination settings. Again, many indications of silver coins (quarters and dimes?) deeper than 6 to 8 inches. I dug up shallower items, including a pull tab, a couple of small aluminum curtain brackets, a sawed off threaded 1/4 inch section of a small bolt, and a booger of an iron nail about 3 and 1/2 inches long. So, while I cannot yet prove there are silver coins at least on some of those deeper signals, I am confident that some are there a little deeper, as the MT-XR indicates. Again, metal detecting is sometimes hit or miss, but I believe this MT-XR is capable of getting you to many targets up to 8 or 10 inches that will be fun to dig up to identify and add to your collection. I look forward to finding some buried "treasure" with my brother and grandchildren. Stressing again, this thing can bring a lot of leisurely fun in the great outdoors either solo or with someone else to share the fun, adventurous toil, and nice fresh air. I hope you find this helpful! Cheers!

Surprisingly Good Metal Detector!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 8, 2020Style: Single Metal DetectorVerified Purchase
First of all, I am beginning detectorist. I did a lot of research. After reading a bunch of reviews and watching a lot of online videos about a bunch of different devices I decided to give this machine a shot. I am not at all disappointed. I am a big "bang for your buck" kind of guy. This thing has the most high end features and best reviews that I could find in this price range. If you want a good starter detector and don't want to spend a ton of money, this is your machine. Relax and buy it. You'll be happy with it. For a more detailed review, keep reading.
I received my MT-XR a few weeks ago. It was super easy to assemble and seems well made. It is really lightweight and easy to swing for extended periods of time without your arm getting too tired. The aluminum (?) tubing seems strong and the cam locks are sturdy. I put mine together in about 5 minutes. My only qualm is that the 9v battery connector is the old 80's "lanyard" type and not a drop-in style, but even that connetor seems sturdier than normal.
My first test was in my backyard. I turned it on and almost immediately it found an old nail about 4-5 inches down. After finding 2 or 3 more nails I figured it worked well enough to take with me on vacation to the beach.
Out on the beach, I first tried it down on the wet sand with everything wide open (sensitivity up all the way, looking for all metal types). It went a little bonkers. I used the discrimination feature to get rid of ferrous metals and that helped a lot, but I still got a lot of false positives, so I turned down the sensitivity. That helped a little, too. I decided to give the dry sand a try because I had heard that wet sand can cause some interference with detectors.
The dry sand really made a difference! I still discriminated out the ferrous metals, set the sensitivity down a notch from the top and after that I was finding all sorts of coins, can tabs, matchbox cars, etc. While I didn't find any gold rings or diamond necklaces, I think I might have if I had stuck with it long enough. Overall, it was a great first experience.
Tips: Play around with the settings until your false positives are at a minimum. Try to not brush the sand with the sensor ring - it makes it sound off all kinds of crazy stuff. Hold he ring down to the ground before turning the unit on - it helps with the automatic ground balancing and minimizes false positives. If you get a signal, go over the same patch of ground several times before digging - this will verify something is there and save you from unneeded digging. Get a pack of rechargeable 9v batteries with a charger - they are about 20 bucks for 4 batteries and will pay for themselves many times over. Get the Dr. Otek Pin Pointer - That little thing works great, plus, DR Otek sends you a 15% off coupon that you can use towards it.
Pros:
Inexpensive
Well Built
Lightweight
Works Well
Lots of High-end Features
Battery life is pretty long (at least 3-4 hours)
Cons:
The arm strap is a little too small
The 9v connector is a little flimsy
The learning curve is a little steep, but once you get used to it, it works great
Not too great on wet sand (so far - maybe I need to figure out better settings)
Summary: I think I made a great choice. I definitely look forward to using this metal detector in the future. Again, if you want a good detector and don't want to break the bank, you can't go wrong with the MT-XR.
