At the begining of the book we are intoduced to Dana's golden Max that her husband wanted but he neglects him and it is implied Dana is mainly responsible for taking care of him. For most of the book neither her husband or Dana are home and her mother is taking care of her daughter. No mention of Max for the rest of the book! Now this could be just lazy writing But a major plot point is about Dana taking care of 2 other pets that are abandoned when their owner is murdered and Dana adopts them at the end and asks her daughter not to overfeed Freud and Leonardo as they are getting fat. If the author just neglected to mention her mother was taking care of Max the whole time why not mention Max too when talking about feeding Freud & Leonardo and maybe mention if Max was getting along with the new additions. I can't believe Dana would abandon Max with her soon to be ex husband who couldn't be trusted to pick up his own daughter at daycare.
My other issue with the book is we know Dana and James are the same ages since they are twins and would be close to same age as Elizabeth as they were all freshman at the same time. At the beginning Dan says more than once she is 34 so James & Elizabeth should also be 34. But a couple years previously at their father's funeral James describes himself as only 32 and already losing his hair which means Dana has to also be 32. Dana is thinking about starting a family but she is not pregnant yet yet but in just 2 years when she is 34 she has a 3 year old- how does that happen. At the end of the book we are told Elizabeth is 40 and that she was 18 when she was a freshman at college. what? so James and Dana were 12 year old freshman since we are told they are now 34? Stuff like this drives me crazy. Other that that I really liked the book.
