When the rash got so bad that our little guy was crying hysterically at every bum change, we gave it a chance. IMMEDIATE relief.
It smells awful. It's super paste-y, and incredibly hard to get off your hands, but IT WORKS.
We've since bought 2 more tubes, and will continue to use this as long as we have kids in diapers.
EDIT: Opened another tube, which had a weaker, diluted, ointment which was runny, compared to the paste in another tube. The runny ointment was not as effective, being prone to getting removed by friction with clothes or rubbing against the body.
We found the best trick for diaper rash was this:
1. Thin layer of clotrimazole cream (canestan - deals with the moisture bacteria)
2. Thick layer of desitin
3. Splash of corn starch baby powder (prevents diaper from absorbing the cream)
Worked for us like a miracle. I still have a tube of desitin (a new one) that I use when he licks his lips too much and gets a rash. Clears that right up too.
Created a thick protective barrier to allow medicated creams to work. For this purpose, it works great.
I would not buy it for everyday use because it smells awful and is devastating on my cloth diapers. It is also really thick and tough to spread. And also... the SMELL. Contains cod liver oil which is not a smell I want in my everyday life.
I come from Brazil where they sell a baby rash profuct that has cod liver oil and vitamin A calciferol.
Moving to canada, no cream worked until I FOUND DESITIN! The only with cod liver oil sold in Canada. And being paraplegic I use it for myself.
Niw the big round bottle I bought doesn’t have cod liver oil so I didnt even use because I know it’s going to be like all other ones that I have tried.
The secret is the COD LIVER OIL that treats the skin and help it healing.
The tube has Cod liver oil but the round bottle doesn’t and i found out because it didnt heal my skin. So I WANT MY MONEY BACK! The tubes are fine but the round one is as bad as any other baby bum rash : it doesnt work. I dont care about the smell as long as it protects my skin!
