Easier to load bikes than the types that suspend from frame. Lighter than appears but bulky to store off car.
Came slightly broken or plastic piece cracked. I glued it instead of return as these items are hard to get in stock or in time.

All of the racks on the market have a small percentage of reviews describing disastrous outcomes during transport and I'm sure this rack will have its share in time as well.
The reason is because the use of any rack also requires an element of common sense and human intervention to prevent accidents from happening.

From all the negative reviews I've read, I believe failure can be attributed to one or more of the following:
1. The rack wasn't being used for its intended purpose eg. installed on an RV/Trailer
2. Lack of inspection prior to transport
3. Pin connecting bike rack to the hitch
4. Failure with straps

This rack should have 0 failures given that you take appropriate measures to address 1 and 2 for the following reasons:
Regarding 3, the pin consists of a threaded bolt with an R-clip/cotter pin to secure it - there is no way for the pin to loosen on its own.
Regarding 4, the straps on any rack will not last forever and are guaranteed to break. However, each bike on this rack is secured at 4 points: 1 at each tire, 1 at the frame and 1 strap attaching it to the bike beside it.
If any one strap breaks, the bike will remain on the rack.

My intent was to find a rack that could transport 4 bikes with a minimal failure rate and this rack does seem to be the best. (I have 3 adult bikes + 1 youth bike)

The other bonus features such as the weight and ease of assembly have already been mentioned in posts as has the downside to the rack in that it's relatively easy to take the entire rack with a few tools as the locking mechanism preventing this is relatively weak.

I needed a 3-bike rack and switched to this from a Thule Pro2. This rack is good, but not in the level of a Thule or Yakima. But it was available and I bought it.

Be extremely careful assembling it, and double-check the instructions. It's easy to mix up the inner and outer sections. It would be no big deal, but the hex bolts that hold them down are super cheap, and tend to strip. Get everything in the right place first, then snug the bolts down.

On the car, the rack is really secure. There's a little play and bounce, but every rack has that.

Yes, it will hold four full-suspension mountain bikes. But loading and securing them is a different level of difficulty from the Thule. You have to be precise with placement, pedal position, centering...then try to angle the frame strap just right. I'm sure it will get easier with practice, but the Thule was just slap it in and go. This one takes a while.

After one fairly long trip, the bikes were secure and didn't move. The rack does its job. There are better racks out there, but there are much worse racks out there as well. I'd give it one more star if the directions were clearer.

This rack is well built and easily caries 4 early 60's Schwinns. My wifes debutante rode just as good as me and my boys Americans. I highly recommend this rack.

## UPDATE ## loaded the bikes up multiple times. I've put on several hundred miles with all 4 bikes. This rack is SOLID! Keeps the bikes protected from rubbing on the other bikes. Fairly easy to load and unload once you get it down. If you need to carry 4 bikes, THIS IS YOUR RACK!!

What an Amazing Bike Rack for the price!

I have searched, purchased and returned multiple bike racks (those were not platform racks, they were hanging bike hitch mount racks) and this is THE hitch rack for you if you are searching for a rack that can actually fit 4 bikes AND is easy to manage. Hitch bike racks that hang bikes will make your life miserable when dealing with the bikes. This platform rack is simple and secure.

The PROS:
- Very reasonably priced
- Easy to assemble
- Sturdy (in the mount and in how it positions the bikes)
- Tilts up and secures when no bikes are on it
- Has a lock at its base (and you can get a security cable that integrates to lock bikes within the rack but you need to purchase this separately, it's only like $15)

The CONS:
- You can not open your trunk when bikes are on this rack.
- Has a pin you need to unscrew to tilt up/down (easy to do, but not as simple as a button or lever). This is a totally minor thing... just saying as that could be an issue for some.

PROS totally outweigh the cons, especially for the price. If you need a hitch-based rack for 4 or more bikes, this is the way to go if you want something that can easily be put on and off, it's surprisingly light weight and easy to store. Thule and Yakima are HEAVY, overpriced and will NOT fit 4 bikes without a fight each time you put them on. Cheaper ones like Allen are light and manageable, but again, are an even tougher struggle with your bikes.

That said... if you're only looking to rack 2 bikes, a hanging rack would be sufficient, no need for a platform, but get a 4 bike rack and not a 2 bike rack.
