5.0 out of 5 starsGreat Dinosaur Book!

I have read this book to my grandson more times than I cannot remember lol. He loves dinosaurs and learning about them. Only thing I wish for my sake as well as my grandson's is that the names for the dinosaurs were consistent in all ๐Ÿฆ• books. Then I would be able to remember them better.

3.0 out of 5 starsDisappointed
Reviewed in Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ on August 19, 2022
The book itself is pretty good. Nice colourful pictures and simple, easy to read descriptions.
The big disappointment is the choice of dinosaurs chosen. There is no Trex, no Brontosaurus, pterodactyl or stegosaurus....some of the most popular dinosaurs. If I had known that, I would not have purchased. It was a big letdown for my son unfortunately.

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful! Outdated!

Most Dinosaurs we didn't recognize, which is fine to learn new things, but the raptors didn't look like birds! How can we trust anything else this books says! We sent it back. There is a cool page at the back that shows the sizes of the animals compared to every day things, which is really neat. My son honestly loved it, but I want him to see the most up to date of what dinosaurs looked like. And more fun recognizable dinosaurs

1.0 out of 5 stars Not for this dino lover

My child loves dino and was excited to open this book because I love the author and my son has rejected nothing that has to do with a dino except this book. Now its going to sit on a shelf maybe my next child will love it. Side note it's not that it's a hard read he is two and can say dino names it's that it's not interesting to him.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not so great

I expected more from this book. My 5 years old read it when we first got it and hasn't read it again since! The words (dinosaurs names) are way too hard to read and remember. Too bad.

3.0 out of 5 stars it is okay but not the best...

My three years old son, like his many friends, is a dinosaur fan and therefore we have bought a couple of picture books like these along with some plastic toys.

This book is colorful, printed on high quality paper and has a sturdy hardcover. The dinosaurs are given in alphabetic order and each one is accompanied by a paragraph size information. They are all okay.

However there is something irritating about this book. The pictures are not realistic. Most of them, like the ones in the cover image, look like photographs of cheap plastic toys instead of actual representation of dinosaurs. They are dull and thus has not grasped the attention of my son as much as I hoped.

Another equally negative point is that there is no sense of surrounding at all. All photos are against monochrome background. It looks like the passport photo album of dinosaurs. Where are the trees, lakes, rivers, mountains and all other elements of a proper ecosystem? Why don't they show the herds or perhaps an image with multiple dinosaurs, may be a mother like maiasaura with the baby ones or a quetzalcoatlus flying over a forest?

Finally, I think the selection of dinosaurs are not very thoughtful. I could not find the most famous ones in the book. Of course, they can not include every dinosaur but a dinosaur book without T-rex is like an Africa book without a lion.

For the price and quality of print, I think it could have been much better. My suggestion is : If you are only after one good dinosaur book, then go for the 'National geographic, kids first big dinosaur book'
National Geographic Little Kids First Big Book of Dinosaurs (National Geographic Little Kids First Big Books) instead of this one. It is equally expensive and also has high print quality with much more to offer; but if you want to have a collection of books about these ancient monsters, then go for and purchase it. Your kid will like it if not love it...

2.0 out of 5 stars Good but don't get My Big Dinosaur book with it

My 2yr old is obsessed with dinosaurs and we already had "My Big Dinosaur Book" by the same publisher that just shows the pictures and names of the dinosaurs. He has all the dinosaurs memorized. The ABC book shows the exact same pictures of the dinosaurs, but many of them have different names! Maybe there is a scientific reason for this, but for me this is a hard pass. How am I supposed to explain that the exact same pictured dinosaurs has a completely different name in the new book to a 2yr old?

Buy one book...but don't buy both

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute book but not common Dinoโ€™s

I think maybe Iโ€™m too dumb for this book - I canโ€™t pronounce, nor have I heard of most of these Dinoโ€™s! ๐Ÿ˜‚. Why canโ€™t B be Brontosaurus, S be Stegosaurus, and T be a T-Rex? I think weโ€™ll return this and try another one. Super awesome pics and information though for a kid who maybe is more advanced than my 2.5 and I are in the Dino department
