2.0 out of 5 stars Only received 9 stones, not the 11 stated on the box
By Dawn on September 30, 2019
Only received 9 stones not the 11 stated on the box. One of the missing ones being amethyst that is listed on the box. I gave this to my daughter as part of her birthday gift, she was so excited to open it and dig them out. When we only got 9 she was so sad and in her own words "we were scammed!" She was excited to dig out the amethyst.. I feel sad for her

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't occupy child for as long as expected
By melissa on May 27, 2020
This kit was exciting to unbox, my child was pleased with the goggles and tools and was keen to get started! 11 gems were found (well, 13, because the amethyst was broken) but they were all located in one large clump in the centre of the block so it didnt take very long to unearth the collection. I was hoping it would keep my child occupied for longer, hence the lower rating, though it was enjoyable while it lasted! I tried to encourage them to keep digging into the block, just for fun, but that also didnt last long.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
By michelle on November 11, 2021
I found this to be super disappointing. We gave it to my 5yr old and he had found all the gems within 45 min. Which is fine...but the box makes it seem like the brick is MUCH BIGGER than it is...and the gems/rocks are so stinkin' tiny. My son had fun doing it...def good for a 5 year old. I don't know where they got the recommended age of "12+" from....a 12yr would would be BORED to death with this.... Just disappointing.

1.0 out of 5 stars The excavation was fun, but for 10 minutes
Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2017
We received this product to give our son on his 10th birthday, it is marked as 12+. To begin with, the goggles included were literally too small for his 8 year old sister, they are appropriately sized for a young child, maybe age 4-5. That was not a big deal, as it is not necessary to wear, but we found that odd. Also, when getting a $20 item, you expect that it will take some time to find the 11 hidden gems. 3 gems were nearly poking out of the corner, 6 gems were in the same exact corner, and my son had excavated all 11 gems within 10 minutes because they were so close to each other. The excavation was fun, but for 10 minutes, it should be priced at about $5. This was poorly made and I would not recommend anyone pay this price for this set. A gem dig should have the 11 gems spread out throughout the block, not all lumped together in a find 1, find them all fashion.

We were using this product as part of a homeschool minecraft STEM class. 12 students total. My daughter had absolutely zero gems. The adults sifted through the dust to be sure. What a heartbreaking disappointment.

2.0 out of 5 stars We only found 9 out of 11 stones :(
Reviewed in the United States on May 8, 2019
After having a BLAST excavating the gemstone set from KidzLabs, my 8 year old son used his own money to buy this set by Discovery. He chose this particular brand because all packaging and information guaranteed 11 different stones, including TURQUOISE! He eagerly set to work searching for his stones. He enjoyed the safety glasses and the tools. It took him plenty of time and he really enjoyed the process of chiseling and finding stones. In the end, however, he only found 9 stones, and turquoise was not one of them. He was very disappointed!!!! If the box states that the set contains 11 stones and specifically lists turquoise, the set should contain 11 stones, including turquoise!
