Product description

The Artful Parent highly recommends Samara’s book, Drawing Workshop for Kids: Process Art Experiences for Building Creativity and Confidence. This book evokes a feeling of calm concentration from the kids hard at work on these beautiful workshops. I can’t wait to get started drawing with my own son.―Rachel Withers, Editorial Manager, The Artful Parent

About the Author

Samara Caughey received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and an MFA from University of Southern California. She taught art classes for children at the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena, California, for 9 years before opening Purple Twig, an art studio for children and families. The studio teaches techniques in ceramics, drawing, sculpture, collage, and printmaking, all the while allowing children to have their own voice. Samara’s approach to teaching children grows directly out of her own fine art practice, which consists of sculpture and collage. She has exhibited professionally in solo and group shows in Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Minneapolis. Samara is also contributing writer, creating art projects for children on a bimonthly basis for and, and has created art content for for their Discovery Conference on process art and how to incorporate it into a preschool curriculum. She lives in Los Angeles, California.

Samara grew up in the woods outside of Seattle, Washington, climbing trees and swimming in lakes. After high school she moved to Chicago to attain a BFA at the School of Art Institute of Chicago in photography. She then crossed the country to Los Angeles for a MFA at USC in sculpture. Teaching art to children is directly related to this background in art. In 2010, with her 2 small children in tow, she rented a storefront and opened Purple Twig, an art studio for kids and families in Los Angeles. It has been going strong since then.
