What is a steam cleaner?
A steam cleaner is a cleaning appliance that superheats water to produce dry, superheated steam. This steam is then released on demand to clean, detail, sanitize, degrease, & deodorize almost any surface without having to use harsh chemicals.
Are steam cleaners safe?
When used for their intended purpose, good quality steam cleaners are very safe and easy to use.
When steam cleaning, where does the dirt go?
The dirt is picked up by the microfiber cloth attached to the accessory. This helps steam reach a higher temperature, allowing it to retain moisture and pick up dirt.

You will want to wipe most things you’ve cleaned with paper towel after you are done if not using distilled water. This isn’t the fault of the cleaner, but rather the dissolved solids that drop out of the steam staying on what you’ve cleaned ie windows and chrome faucets. Working with steam in my work life I anticipated this. Also means you will have to descale the unit as per the directions. Not an issue just wanted to put it out there so people weren’t surprised. We don’t all read instructions hahaha. Speaking of instructions keep it moving and don’t wait in one spot too long, this steam is hot enough that there is the potential to remove finishes as well as dirt. I had zero issue but it is something to note. Some of the soap scum took multiple passes to remove but I didn’t ruin the finish on the tub.
I’m another thing to note, when the light turns green saying that you are ready to use purge the hose in the sink or tub as it will be full of hot water. Be mindful of the splash back as the water is at or near 100 C. Once you get constant steam your good to go, and for a long while too. I didn’t time it but if I were to guess a tank will last about 15 minutes with the trigger constantly depressed.
When using the jet blast steam attachment you will want ear plugs as it’s very loud, mine measured between 90-110 dB. This is far outweighed by the effectiveness of this tool. Made getting all the nooks and crannies as well as the grout between the tiles on the tub clean a breeze. As well as cleaning the top of our gas range. If you have a gas stove you know the oily residue that requires lots of elbow grease to get through. This thing obliterated it! The same with the oven, between the jet nozzle and the triangle brush it was almost enjoyable!
The triangle brush with the elastic microfiber cloth attached to it made cleaning out teenage daughters tub almost fun, it erased soap scum almost effortlessly once the cloth was wet and hot.
The floor attachment was amazing and worked well on our hard wood floors. The micro fiber pads attach easily and don’t fall off. Our floors already looked clean but the used pad said differently lol.
The window attachment works well, but is a little finicky to get just right. More of a first time use problem I think. Once I got the hang of it, it was quite good as well. Word of advice, have a towel or paper towel at the bottom of the window to catch all the water that condensed from the steam on the window, and I followed up with paper towel on the glass to get rid of streaks.
All of the attachments are well built and feel very good in the hand as well as not feeling cheap. The cord wrap in the base of the machine and rolling wheels so it follows while doing floors is a brilliant design touch. We threw all the dirty pads in the washing machine after we were done so the clean up is quite easy.
All in all first impression this thing is worth every penny. It was worked hard the first day and didn’t have a single issue. If this changes in the future I will update my review, but thus far I’m very happy with this purchase. Don’t wait if you’ve read this far, buy it you won’t regret it!
(I only write reviews for me - and or people like me that have to research everything before they buy, because they are tired of buying garbage and they want what they buy to WORK - hope you find it helpful.)
If I had known - that I could have had one of these 30 years ago and spared myself from all the chemicals and my chemical sensitivity breathing issues and asthma attacks.
It decreases revolting jobs by ¾ in time. Thank you - Dupray - so much manufacturing a steam cleaner that does what you say it does. It makes cleaning the disgusting things that people don't even realize are absolutely filthy and 'super groase'. (note to others - take your sinks and pipes apart - you will vomit! Use the steam cleaner on your front loading washing machine rubber seal - NASTY!)
So, I started my research looking at Bissel, Karcher and McCulloch - It mattered to me that they would:
a). Ship to Canada (McCullock doesn't)
b). had a hose, so that I could fit it into the toilet tank and my front loading (Bissell is like an iron - with a 3 inch 'beak' so it does not fit into confined spaces, and
c). Have a hight temperature.
This is my first steam cleaner - it is not an upholstery shampooer - there is no 'moisture' extraction.
High quality extension handle - solid and metal - 217 degrees (think so it is super hot), length of hose is great, tools are great, bought the extra accessories kit (more clothes, floor pads, and steamer tips - buy it - I am glad I did.)
What have I cleaned? Well, just moved into a FILTHY condo so the range hood/microwave was dripping with grease, under the stove and fridge had not been cleaned for likely 10 years (guessing due to dead bugs, spider webs, placemats, and food debris). So, I scraped, vacuumed and then steamed - rock star - I almost didn't gag.
PICTURES: Well, like I said - there are dirty things that no one thinks about - that are groase and can make you sick. The thought of 'other people's bacteria, hair and dirt' make me want to vomit'. Sorry - that is the truth.
The overflows in my bathrooms are black, the sink cups in the kitchen are black - the toilet tanks where covered in mould, the front loading cloths washing machine's front gasket seal had baked on brown slime that smelt like sulphur and vomit. The entire stove including the frame where the drawer slides in was absolutely filthy - years of grime and food bits. Kitchen tile grout was black - turns out it is light grey. I used it on my Weber Q grills - they came out like new! (serious - I was shocked that it worked!) Next is the rubber on my husbands car that is growing algae - (really?) - yes algae!
The steamer also kills spiders! Woo Hoo!
Anyway, the long and the short of it is this - you can seriously burn yourself - so no 'sleep cleaning' - this unit is worth the money and will do the job. Stop researching and buy which ever Dupray model fits your needs. I am in a condo - so Neat worked for me.

"It puts out more water than steam"
Yes, sometimes it sputters out some water. Usually this means you need to wait longer for steam to generate. The light on the main unit indicates if it's ready for use. Sometimes it fluxuates during use, this is normal. After maybe 5-10 minutes of constant steaming it needs time to regenerate. I'd like to note that the water sputtering out is hardly an issue, you can simply wipe it up - no harm done.
"It doesn't put out enough pressure and steam to clean the floors."
The pressure can be pretty intense through the tight nozzles, but I think this is actually a valid criticism as far as floor cleaning is concerned. If you have deep stains, you'll need to work on those areas for a bit.
"The need to constantly hold a button to steam the floors is a hassle."
The handle comes with a button on top. While holding the trigger, you can press the top button in and it'll lock the trigger, much like a gas nozzle at the gas station.
"The length of the handle of the mop is not long enough. I am 5'2" and I had to bend over constantly to use the steamer"
This device comes with an extension piece that greatly increases the length. I'm 6'1" and can comfortably clean our entire apartment. Granted, I do have to hunch over a bit to give those trouble spots some extra work, but I haven't been bothered by it.
"The pad area is not large enough to clean a large tiled area."
I don't think this device is appropriate for large homes. The pad is relatively small, but it's perfectly reasonable for most apartments and small homes in my experience.
"With what little steam and heat it put out the clip on top warped and broke out of place within the 1st 5 minutes of use."
I didn't experience this at all. I've used this thing to its limits, fully expending an entire tank in one use. The only damage I caused was my fault for blowing scalding hot steam on materials that weren't designed to sustain the heat. This criticism strikes me more as a defect, and potentially a hazard if the steam can make its way through the hole where the button used to be.
This is just my experience with the device. I have no regrets purchasing it, it does its job very well.
I do, however, have some minor criticisms that you should consider before purchasing:
1. The rags they provide can (and will) get very dirty, and won't wash out easily. This isn't really an issue because you can use any microfiber cloth in their place, but in practice it can be a hassle. Especially the scrunchie cloth that goes around the scrubber attachment. That is very much a custom-made piece, and anything like it is very expensive. If you buy generic microfiber cloths, you'll need to fashion some way to keep it in place on whatever attachment you want to use.
2. It can be a chore to set up. You have to measure out the water you want (ideally filtered, you don't want any calcified buildup inside the device. That'll be a whole different headache down the line.), pour it into the little hole without spilling, and then wait a non-negligible amount of time before you can start.
3. It requires post-cleaning cleanup. The rags you used will be dirty. If you care about the stains, you'll likely need to treat the cloths with some kind of cleaning substance. Otherwise, you'll just need to run them through the laundry asap.
4. This unit isn't necessarily fit for deep cleaning the floors. As I, and the reviewer I quoted both mentioned, this unit doesn't have the pressure or heat to really get tough stains out of hard surfaces. It is, however, perfectly suited for routine floor cleaning, or for handling spills shortly after they happen.
As an anecdote, I found that our trash can had been leaking unknown sticky substances onto the floor behind it. This device was able to take care of 80% of the problem, but I still had to get on my knees and scrub the rest. I would have done that last part anyway, so I'm not too upset about it. It was definitely easier after using this device.
5. It's not very vocal about needing some more time to build steam. While cleaning, the indicator light will occasionally turn yellow, which, according to the manual, means you should take a pause while it generates more steam. In reality, you can continue steaming for some time after it turns yellow, but you'll eventually outpace the steam production. This isn't a huge issue, but you'll need to keep an eye on the light soas not to be surprised. Stopping right as it turns yellow lets you take smaller pauses, if that's preferable to you.
Otherwise, you'll note that I still gave this a 5 star rating. For the price, this is a fantastic product. I can use it for easily 90% of my regular household cleaning tasks, it's very flexible.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who has a relatively small space they intend to use this in (vehicles, specialty rooms, small homes, etc.).

Nifty, multi-use cleaner
I bought this steam cleaner because I was looking for something to help clean carpet, but I didn't want one more appliance taking up space in the closet. I was drawn to this Neat steamer because of its compact size and myriad uses.
Pros:
- It does a great job of spot-cleaning carpet stains (see before and after attached). Much faster and easier than spray cleaners or soap and water. The heat may be problematic for some kinds of carpet, but if you're trying to fix a stain, then there's not much to lose in the first place
- I loved being able to go straight from carpet to laminate flooring with the flooring attachments, so fast and easy!
- The accessories and attachments feel very solid and durable, a heavyweight plastic that seems like it will last a long time
- The tank capacity is voluminous. I read other reviews that complained it was too small, but I spot-cleaned and steamed our dining room and kitchen floors, bathroom toilet and floor, bathroom grout lines (before/after attached) shower floor, 6 large windows (inside and outside), and my kitchen counter -- about 2 hours of cleaning -- and still had water left over.
- The steam has amazing cleaning power. It dissolves sticky messes so easily and doesn't leave a residue. It removed dirt and dust I didn't even know were on my kitchen counter.
Cons:
- The unit handle and hose get very hot with prolonged use. Not hot enough to be painful, but enough to be disconcerting. Just something to be aware of.
- The unit tends to drip a bit here and there, either from steam condensation or the ends of attachments. You definitely want to keep a microfiber towel on hand. The one included is wonderful, but to do more than one or two things at a time, I had to use more.
Other notes on use:
As the manufacturer notes, the steam is very hot. There is not really a trigger lock (just a button that keeps the trigger open), so you may need to exercise extra caution and vigilance when using it, especially if you have little, curious kids at home (like I do!)
Overall the machine is very quiet, except if you use it with the trigger attachment in an enclosed space like a small shower. I would definitely recommend using ear protection in that situation.
I would give this a B+ or A- for carpet cleaning. To be fair, the manufacturer does not advertise this as a carpet cleaner. It gets spots out very well, but mostly "refreshes" the main carpet if you use the floor attachment. The carpet is definitely cleaner and looks better, but doesn't feel as clean as if you used a shampooing/wet machine. However, I feel like it is adequate for my needs, and is much easier to use than a shampooing machine.
The price point for this machine is highly competitive. It is more affordable than similar machines, and feels like a good deal, given its apparent high quality and cleaning power. That being said, I feel like there is a missed opportunity for built-in storage for the hose and accessories. However, you can easily fix that with a simple storage bin. Overall, it's a great product, and I'm happy to pay a lower cost on a minimalistic machine and add towels or storage options as I need them.

First, No matter which machine you but, they are mostly all made in one of two or three factories. This is made by Techno Vap in Italy. They also make Daimer units. The primary differences between units are pressure, tank size and number and temperature. The higher the pressure a unit produces, the hotter the water gets before it turns to steam. Once you know these facts, it's really a question of what features you need in order to decide what product to buy.
This unit will do everything the $1000+ units will do... It may just take you a bit longer.
I bought this having never owned a steamer before and quickly decided I need this more than a vaccum I have a large home with almost 10,000sqft of travertine flooring, six baths and two kitchen areas. Realizing that this tank is very small for the whole house, I still like it for small jobs and I now use it in the guest house so I don't need to drag the bigger unit over there.
The tank on this holds about a half gallon if you bleed it out completely when you fill the tank. Unfortunately, there is no indicator of how much water remains in the tankat any point in time (which is true of most steamers although I don't really understand the why). With no indication of how much water you have left in the steamer at any given point in time, If you're doing a big cleaning job, plan to work for about an hour then break when the steam runs out to allow this machine to heat up a fresh tank. If you completely run the tank out before refilling you don't have to wait for it to cool down before removing the cap... It took a while to figure this out and I'm glad I did! It saves a ton of time if you need to refill it.
I know there are a lot of questions about using cleansers with or in these units. Dupray says certain liquids can be run through the machine, however, many professionals reccommend NOT running anything through the machine as it may affect the tank and shorten the life of hte heating element and thus the entire unit. Personally, having tried it both ways, I just don't see the need. Even doing a commercial style kitchen with this unit, running anything through the machine didn't make it clean any faster or any better than just water. If you really have something tough, like gum, then you may want to spray something on the area, but it's really more about the accessory you're cleaning with than the cleanser.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ATTACHMENT! One thing I've really learned is that these aren't designed to "mop" a floor clean if it has deep dirt. You're going to want a brush or detail type attachment to get the dark spots off. Maybe if your grout is sealed you may be able to keep your floors cleaner than I can keep mine, but the floor head is only going to get up surface dirt. However, that doesn't make this a bad idea at all. Even the small detail brush on this unit will go through grout lines in a snap. Even filthy grout (and mine gets gross fast!) goes much faster than I thought it would. Once I decided to try the brushes on the grout I was shocked by what I could get up. Even some of the excess mud that was used to fill the tumbled travertine and wasn't removed properly when the house was built ten years ago came off easily! My floors didn't look this clean when the house was built! We can actually walk around with socks and not get the feet black in an hour! That seriously never happened, even with the cleaners with truck mounted pressure washer units I used to hire every year.
Yes, I still wish the cord was longer, but I'll live with it for how easy this is to move around the room. Just know if you have a room that's larger than about 12' you'll be moving outlets and yes, you need to unwind the entire cord and slide the machine around, but it's not as big a deal as I thought it was after using it only a couple of times... After having tried many machines, this one REALLY stands out in value.
Another consideration is the cost of replacing the brushes. Dupray is pretty reasonable at about $2.90 per head. Additional accessories are also available on their site if you want things like stainless steel brush etc you can also get them at Daimler to fit this model's "steam lance" (The wand with the small hole at the end that the detail brushes fit over.)
It's size and price are terrific. It's a plastic body... and I don't know how long it will last. I've used it all day, every day for more than a month now - which in hours is probably more than most residential uses would use it in a year and it's still working as well as the day I bought it. For the money, if mine past on tomorrow, I'd still be happy with it. Just keep in mind that some of the factors that determine pricing on steamers include the body- plastic on this, the heating element, which is not removable on this, and the tank, aluminum and not stainless on this. Even full, it's light and it's not hard to carry. By comparison to similarly priced units the attachments are AWESOME!!! This was a HUGE advantage for this machine! McCulloch makes a unit that costs almost twice as much but the attachments feel MUCH cheaper than this unit! It you use the right attachment, you don't need to scrub, but steam is hot and the heavy material stays cooler. My granite kitchen island is 15'x22' and I can put the squeegee on the extension wand and go from one side to the other without ANY difficulty- which for me almost justifies having this unit on hand in itself. PADS: Another thing I really love and can't overstate the GENIUS of the clip that allows this unit to use almost any towel. I literally have seven different types of microfiber "mop covers" from assorted other failed attempts to find a compact floor cleaner. This is absolutely the best feature this machine offers! The first day I used the machine I went through every pad and towel I had and every one of them worked. The clips are solid, they will hold a towel that is a bit too large, even folded in quarters, and it doesn't slip as you mop.
BOTTOM LINE: You need to know how much you're willing to spend. If your budget is X, and this fits, you'll likely find this is the best unit in the price point. Dupray makes more expensive units, as does Daimer and several other companies and it's really just a question of what features you need in a given price point to be happy with the product. This unit should be able to do anything most residential users could ever want.
I would be glad to answer questions.

I've been able to clean two and three bedroom apartments, and small homes with one fill of the reservoir, and actually haven't run into a situation where I've run out of steam and had to refill, so the runtimes ar actually really good.
The amount of steam, and the dryness (?) has been fine for what I've used it for, and when you pause to allow it to reheat (which isn't really necessary, I just do it when I move the unit) it generally is ready again in less than a minute.
I've been using the floor cleaning pads to clean carpets by putting some elastic hair ties around to keep the pad from being able to move, and it glides smoothly over even thick carpets, and generates plenty of heat (remember that this is a contact steamer, so a few inches away from the nozzle the steam is actually cooled quite a bit, so it's best to use attachments that keep you in direct contact to what you are cleaning).
So below is my initial impression of the NEAT...
I purchased this and it arrived in less than a week. It was in one well packed box, and the unboxing experience was fine.
I noticed it had a swivelling floor nozzle, unlike the rigid one earlier reviewers had complained about, so it can easily maneuver to get behind and around toilets and other fixtures when cleaning.
All of the individual accessories seem to be of high quality and fit well together and overall the NEAT has a nice modern appearance. The white color has a good durable look to it, and it will be easier to keep looking clean than some other brands in this price range with more contours and crevices that will trap grit and look shabby after a while (this is important for me as I use equipment in customers homes, and having your cleaning equipment looking shiny and new lends to your appearance, so hard to keep clean equipment makes more work for me to maintain it).
It got to operating temperature in under 8 minutes, and even when used with the trigger lock on maintains adequate temperature and pressure and recovery time is fast enough for me.
I used it for floors and carpets and it worked great. On carpets I found the floor pads work best as they simply glide over most carpet. Stubborn carpets where the pad doesn't glide easily, I simply put velcro straps towards the end of the floor tool around the pad to hold it in place and that fixed the problem (you can easily find double sided velcro in cut to length strips and make the parts you need, as well as use the same velcro in longer lengths to wrap the cord and hose if you don't want to use the cord wrap under the unit, which I don't use).
I have used it to clean other items, with some success on some, and on other items, I found that steamers aren't the best option. An old microwave oven that no one had cleaned in about ten years (with old chili and spaghetti sauce etc that had been in place for years) was no match for the steam and everything came loose and could be easily wiped out. But a fiberglass shower that also hadn't been cleaned in ten years, with a heavy buildup of thick soap scum, and hard water stains didn't respond too much to steam (and had to be cleaned with hand scrapers). So some things can be cleaned with steam, and in fact are the only way you'd really want to clean them, while some things aren't worth the time and mess that steamers create for the slow headway you'd make using one.
They are good on carpets, and upholstery cleaning, but on hard floors you may want o have a microfiber mop or wet/dry vac because they can leave floors wet. Hot dry steam hitting cool hard floors will cause condensation, and this moisture has to be either accepted as a by product, and you allow the floors to air dry, or you need to deal with the moisture with a mop or some other means. No big deal once you understand how it works.
I love the NEAT so far, and Dupray has been a pleasant company to buy from. I have contacted customer service a couple of times, and they were helpful. One call was to ask the PSI of the unit (50 psi), and another was to see if an extension cord could be used ( one rated for 1500 watts, and 12.5 amps @ 110v is acceptable). They respond to by the next day or better, and phone calls are usually immediate, or they will call back within a few hours.
Overall I would give this product highest marks in all categories, and Dupray is a pleasant departure from the average to poor customer service that is normal for most outfits these days.
If you are in the market for one, and can't decide between this unit and a competitor, I recommend going with Dupray!
