Dragons make life complicated. Extremely complicated.
After returning from Idaho, I was hoping to have time to figure things out with Zav—also known as Lord Zavryd, the dragon who claimed me as his mate without asking—but the dark elves are up to their old tricks again.
Actually, they’re up to far more deadly tricks, using more powerful magic than I knew existed. I have no idea how I’m going to stop them, but if I can’t, my entire city and everybody I care about could be obliterated.
To make matters worse, Zav’s sister has shown up and is rooting around in my life. His family doesn’t approve of me, and she plans to put an end to our relationship... one way or another.

The dark elves are at it again and Val is trying to kick their ass, what kind of nefarious plot are the dark elves hatching? Why is family such a pain in the ass sometimes, especially dragon sisters? Will a hunky kickass dragon get closer to Val? How funny is this book? (there is some definite funnyness) Will there be some non-pain-in-the-ass family stuff occuring? All these questions and more will mostly be answered as this kickass urban fantasy series continues, another great read, can't wait to continue with Val and Zav's adventures!

These books are great to read. They are entertaining with a mix of humour and quotable lines. I really enjoy the main character and her strength as well as her growth as a character. I like that Thad and Amber made it into the book even briefly and I hope they are in more books. They really add another dimension to Val's character. The growing relationship with Zav is also great. I'm curious to see how it'll all work. As Willard keeps asking for a wedding invite, I wonder if there will be one.
It's great (and too easy) o get lost in the story. Don't want it to end!

Exciting, honorable heroines, and dastardly villains, set in multiple embodiments with a variety of farmers tho contend with and of course some wonderful achievers and personal growth through intense relationships. And of course, I love how irreverent and snarky Val is. Thanks Lindsey! Now for book 5!

I've enjoyed this whole series. I stay up way later than I should, just to find out what's going to happen to Val and "her" dragon Zav. The writing flows and reading is easy and interesting. This is a high quality series, I highly recommend it!

Give this series Death Before Dragons a go. It took a bit before the 1st book broke out. I am glad I didn’t put the book aside. Good story. Characters grow with each book. Appreciate good humorous writing. Looking forward to the fifth book in the series

Some baltant gaffes but overall good to while away long days

When mt helen exploded, a professor and his son from Seattle visited the research facility i was at. They said that the city was covered in deep layers of ask and they spent days trying to clean it off.
Maybe the dragons came to a parallel universe Seattle, not earth.
Besides it is boring to think that someone trying to dominate the earth would choose USA ss a base when China India or one of the African nations would be a much better choice.
Such a base would be difficult to detect, the target a much higher population, more natiral resources....

Another cool adventure - snow, ice and dark elves

Note: this series covers the life and adventures of one main character and the development of her relationships. And the books rely on each other plot-wise. So I recommend to start at the beginning and read the books in the intended order.

Again L. Buroker managed to add another entertaining adventure to the UF series that I couldn’t lay down. I just love this series. Val is an awesome character, both capable, smooth and snarky and then also somewhat the underdog against the supernatural hard-hitters. And she knows it. She has also come a long way from the self prescribed loneliness so that no friends or family could be targeted because of her job for the government. The job is the same, but now she has Nin and Dimitry as friends, her boss Willard (who is part of the assignment here, very cool, she is hilarious), the dragon Zav and last not least she has finally made contact to her daughter.
And I like all the characters be they main or secondary. All right, the villains are a bit flat, but at least they have good reasons for what they do.
This time, it’s the dark elves again. Their scheme is far from over, so it’s the first task to find them and then to stop them from succeeding in their nefarious goal. That brings Val, Willard and a some more of the government guys to a mission in hostile environment. The atmosphere was very well captured, I nearly felt the cold, the narrow spaces, the smell.... nope, I won’t tell anything else about the plot. Let’s avoid spoilers.
Oh and concerning romance and dragons: there is some, but it’s slow burning and things aren’t easy. Just the way I like it.

Though i have never been overly fond of books written in the FP (first person) I had decided to give this series a go because, well, it's Lindsey Buroker and i LOVE her books. Four books in and i am so glad i did, Normally i stumble a bit reading FP but these books just flow so easy for me that I was able to sink into to story. Arrogant dragons with pretentious names and huge ego's, a tiger partner with an earthly time limit and penchant for ankle chewing, all manner or supernatural creatures and a heroine who doesn't give up, excels in snark and likes to name her weapons. If you love fantasy i can highly recommend giving this and the other book in the series a go

Great series, tough and funny heroine, highly recommended!

One of the best series (no matter the genre)! As I already wrote for the other books in this series, I enjoyed this book very much: very well written, great fantasy world, no lengths, had to laugh out loud numerous times throughout the books because the heroine is not only really tough and very likeable, but also really funny. The romance is increasing in pace in books 3 and 4. There are no cliffhangers as each book has its conclusion, but you still look forward to learning more after each book. I already read all other books in this series until book 4, and very much look forward to reading the next one! Thank you, Lindsay Buroker, for this great read!

Erneut eine gelungene Reihe - another great series by Lindsay Buroker
Reviewed in Germany 🇩🇪 on May 25, 2020Verified Purchase
Lindsay Buroker is one of my favorite authors if not the favorite. I followed her even to the stars though I am not much into scifi (or so I thought). Her return to DRAGONS - this time set in today's America - leaves me delighted. As always her heroines are strong and witty, the story itself is gripping and fast paced. All characters are loveable and a bit quirky and THE DRAGON is a (hot) ass. I am very much looking forward to all new installments of this series and I can even imagine some more about for example Nin or Willard or Freysha. Please, Ms Buroker, keep this series up. It is not as perfect as Star Kingdom but still very, very entertaining!
