Focus and TransitionEnergizers help students focus when they may otherwise be distracted and transition effectively between different activities. |
Brain-Based Learning for Elementary Classrooms

Purposeful Learning Through Play
"Play is the primary way children were designed to learn.” —Kathy Hersh-Pasek and Roberta Golinkoff, contemporary American psychologists
Play is important to the children’s learning. Through shared play, we can model risk-taking, cooperation, self-control, and assertiveness, all skills important to children’s success in school and in life. Engaging with children in appropriate, structured play also lets us experience each other in an informal, friendly way. The“play bond” we form fosters positive relationships with our students, and research shows us that children who have positive connections with their teachers experience more success in school—and in life.
By weaving energizers into your school day, you will infuse joy into learning, deepen student engagement, and meet students' needs for significance, belonging, and fun.

Pros:
-Lots of activities to choose from
-The activities work as explained- they help energize/refresh students
-Most are very quick to do, so they won't take up too much instructional time
Cons:
-Activities vary in length and difficulty, so many may not apply to certain grades or may take too long
-If you own several other Responsive Classroom books, you may already know/have many of these activities- There may not be much new here for you.
Overall:
-Buy it without a doubt if you don't already own any other Responsive Classroom books. If you own other activity/greetings books, you may be disappointed that this won't offer you too much that is new.
