I have purchased several "old" shows in the last few years and I often end up saying, after re-watching them as an adult, "what did I ever see in this show?" This is not the case with Family Ties. The show is still as heartwarming and wonderful as it was when it first came out.
The storylines are still as pertinent (sexual harassment, virginity, alcoholism) all of it is dealt with head on, with love, warmth and yes, humor.
Michael J. Fox is amazing as it the entire cast and I am happy that my boxed set came in pristine condition. No problems with any of the disks and while the cases are pretty basic (there are only two cases as the seasons disks are combined) the collection is absolutely worth it for the price point. There aren't a lot of "extras" or fancy marketing gimmicks, but honestly this show is so good, that it doesn't need any.
Yes, some of the shows seem to have been filmed differently and have held up better, but all of the episodes are still of excellent quality in both visuals and sound and this is a must have for any fan of Family Ties.
Apart from the comedy, this series is enjoyable for it's exploration of the challenges of 'Hippie Parents' from the 60s raising children who cannot relate at all to the idealism that motivated them in their youth.

moviemars refused to offer my any reduction because the period of 30 days was over when I noticed the defect.
This might be legally correct but I think this is just poor customer service. This DVD box was quite expensive and they can't expect people to watch an entire TV-Show-box within such a short time period when it turns out that the item is of poor quality!
