Big screen and fast/responsive. Worth it for the Kids+
Reviewed in Canada on June 1, 2021
It's very nice looking and has a big screen. We like the swipe keyboard. Seems very fast and responsive. Great for my kid's gaming. I really like the kids+ content, and it is encouraging my child to read more. The only things that were a disappointment were that there is no National Geographic app, and i had purchased my child a subscription to it in anticipation for her to be able to have the app on her own tablet. The other thing is that due to the kids' browser filtering, she can't access her covid online schooling. I tried adding all the different pages, but there are soooo many, and when she signs in, their servers go through many domain changes during the signing in, and it happens so fast that i can't click allow fast enough to keep up. It would be nice if it would pause and prompt you with each change. So, she'll have to use my adult profile for school. Teams works just fine though, so that was a surprise. Minecraft was a bit hard to set up due to permissions, but we got there. I've seen that the Canadian adult fire tablets don't have casting ability or Alexa (strange), but this kid version has both. I can't wait until the next grown-up version is out, and i will buy it.
UPDATE: Turns out this tablet is plagued by a known issue with the charging port being disabled by the "moisture warning". This tablet has never been exposed to liquid. It is a humid day out today, so I guess it's just THAT sensitive to moisture. If you look online, you will find that this is a widespread problem across Amazon devices, and I would have hoped that they would have fixed it by now.
I have also discovered that there are no email applications on the kid profile, so my kid basically has to use the adult profile to do anything on this tablet at this point. Yes, 7 year olds email. The pandemic can be thanked for that. I should have just gotten her a normal adult tablet.
