I expected really bad illustrations from reading some of the reviews. And I maybe expected a bad printing of these illustrations too. I have seen some bad prints made from poorly cut and worn woodcuts in books made all the worse by a terrible print job.
But the illustrations in this book are better quality than many of the etchings and woodcuts you may find in books on say William Blake’s art or others. I found nothing terrible in the quality of illustrations here. And the illustrations are clearly printed with crisp lines.
If you have experience reading art history books then you will have no problems reading this book. I was delighted at the collection of illustrations and fascinating research presented in this book.

Pretty Cover, Good info, Bad pictures

The book cover is pretty. The inside photos look like they were stolen and de-pixelated. They are blocky, dark, and even though they are interesting they are also really hard to look at, lack any sort of detail and look smudged in printing. Do not buy this for pictures basically. The information is quiet awesome and most of the books that are cited are from the 14th and 15th century. From what I know of plant history and folklore and beliefs, the lot seems true to history and represent multiple cultures. References to China, Germany, Japan, Greece, Egypt, etc.

I like the information but not the illustrations that in some parts look like sort of messy black ink stamps. I liked the cover and expected more neat publishing work from a book recommended to proffecional illustrators.

A nice soft cover book. Very informative. It's a nice coffee table book. Very wordy in comparison to how many graphics it has.

The quality of the pictures is poor and the letters are missing bits of them. Such a shame.

Dover Press Books in this series are slim, A4, with black and white illustrations and some text.
This title isn't expansive, but is useful in a succinct and introductory manner.
worth buying.

Not what I was expecting. Only sketchy information given. Pictures in thick black ink and some not very clear. Probably better books out there.

Arrived as ordered but without any kind of plastic covering of the book. I know it's not P.C. to use plastic, but when it's raining, books need to be protected.

I study folklore and this book is packed with ancient plant history and illustrations. Interesting and informative for the student, or just a good read.
