I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I have always been a fan of Jackie Chan and Pierce Brosnan. To see them together in this movie on sort of opposing sides was both interesting and entertaining. Chan is not playing his usual melancholy-happy go lucky martial arts kicking character but one that is more somber and dark - he does a great job at it - and yes there is still martial arts but there is more than that - you just have to see the movie to see what I mean. He needs to do a few more like this to show his true acting diversity. As for Pierce what can I say he has played a number of iconic roles in his time and this is no different. He gives great performance. There is not much more to say without revealing part of the storyline and doing a spoiler. Just purchase, rent or stream the movie it is well worth the viewing.

This movie makes one question why for so many years Jackie was given such thin roles.
Jackie is captivating and completely owns the narrative.
This is a must-see character film, not a martial arts movie. Jackie does fight, but gritty, rather than technical, and reluctantly, rather than aware of his own superhuman abilities.

This is one of Jackie Chan's best movies, and I have been a fan for many years. His Shanghai Knights was one of the best western comedies since the days of Wild Bill Hickok and Jingles', and his movie of "The karate Kid" was in my opinion very well done, as a serious drama showing a kid developing his skills and character to defeat a gang of bullies, eager to destroy his ambition to be the winner.
This story lays off of JC's usual comic relief scenes and choreographed fight scenes typical of some of his other earlier flicks, which did not have the benefit of the direction of this movie. He plays a man grieved by the loss of his daughter in a bombing incident who perseveres against the obstruction of his quest for just retribution until he succeeds, and in the meantime, exposing the underlying tale for why the events had taken place as they did. I loved this one too Jackie! Keep up the good work!

JACKIE CHAN IS A LIVING LEGEND A TRUE MOVIE ARTIST, A WARRIOR PUTTING HIS BODY AND LIFE ON THE LINE FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT OF THE WORLD, THERE ARE MANY FILMS IN HIS EXTENSIVE REPERTOIRE BUT THIS IS MY FAVORITE BECAUSE OF THE INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE AND STILL PHYSICAL PROWESS THIS TRUE ACTOR, MAN, LEGEND HAS PORTRAYED IN THE FOREIGNER, HEY IF MY FATHER AGREED THIS IS TOP NOTCH FOR MR. JACKIE CHAN THEN IS CONFIRMED ON MY OPINION AS THE BEST IN HIS INCREDIBLE CAREER.

Watching Jackie Chan from my youth, he brought humour and lightened the fights and dire situations in each of his movies. It's well-known that one of his favourite actors is Buster Keaton, and he brings the slap-stick and his acrobatic skills well into his choreography. The Foreigner has a more somber and serious Jackie Chan portraying a father and a refugee. A little different, but still a great movie with excellent fight sequences and choreogarphy. Pierce Brosnan is Pierce Brosnan. From his days as Remington Steele, he delivers his usual polished performance that is expected of him (from me at least). What an excellent pair to put together, facing off in this movie. Nicely done.

At sixty years old which was used in the movie quite a few times about Jackie Chan age the man still have the chops.
to kick butt in a very young manner I must say. the old sing sing Irish-Mob plays out between the British an him.
an Jackie is caught in-between.. but this is one man that’s not giving up his fight for Justice. even if it kills him.
this movie “The Foreigner” is slow but not the slow you're thinking of. it takes time to delivery the story an when it does look out.
the action is first rate and it has that much energy to be the top rated movie for action no doubt.
Love This An Could See It Ten Times. More.
Runtime 114 Min.

An exciting and riveting action-thriller that's enagaging and well-crafted. Jackie Chan gives a terrific and compelling performance. It was so different to see him play a character in a North American film with a heavy vendetta and plays a remarkable character. Pierce Bronson is excellent. Bronson and Chan are tremendous. When it's not a revenge action film it's a blistering political thriller with character and scale.

Elusive to find, but worth the watch
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 19, 2018Verified Purchase
In the UK, there were few films released in 2017 that proved as difficult to find and watch as The Foreigner. Although the trailers got a UK release, the film itself didn't get a cinematic release, and for a while, it just disappeared off the radar. It was eventually released in the UK as a Netflix exclusive, which is fine so long as you're not like me - one of about eight people left in the world who doesn't have Netflix! Thankfully, the film did get a DVD and Blu-Ray release in the rest of Europe, and this Italian import is probably the best legal way of watching the film if you don't have Netflix. The DVD has the original English language version as well as the Italian dub and Italian subtitles. However, be aware there aren't any English subtitles, so one brief moment where two characters are speaking in Chinese doesn't get translated.
As for the film itself, I hope to have a full in-depth review published on my own film and TV review site soon (link in my Amazon profile). But briefly I'll say that it's worth checking this film out. Watching it, it's not hard to see why it didn't get a cinematic release as it does deal with a lot of sensitive subjects, including bomb attacks, the IRA, people from the government colluding with terrorists etc. Story-wise, the film does re-tread some familiar territory as a parent tries to avenge his daughter's death, and there isn't much here that's particularly new or innovative. The action sequences are nicely done, and it's brilliant to watch Jackie Chan still pulling off such active roles in his sixties. The Foreigner is hardly the best film of the year, but it's an enjoyable action-thriller that isn't afraid to tackle some potentially touchy subjects.

Nowhere in the description does it say region 1 so it will not play in the UK or Europe so not only did I waste my time waiting 2 weeks for it to arrive I've also wasted my money as trying to get a refund from Amazon is so difficult

nice to see Jackie chan in a serious role, even if the subject matter culmination is a little far -fetched.However he does have a very sympathetic role and plays it well,as do the other actors with Pierce Brosnan in top form,as usual and Charlie Murphy.Good performances all round

When ordering this DVD, The Foreigner, it did not state that this is (I think) a Polish DVD with very distracting Polish subtitles over the not very good quality dialogue. All of the printed material is in Polish as are the instructions on screen etc. Not what I expected or wanted. I would like a refund and will return the item if necessary.
