I very quickly learned that the air purifier tells you when to replace by using a timer. It does not measure filter condition. If you don't have instructions for your purifier, they can be found online. It is removing a lot of dust from the air. I was surprised that the Amazon price was better than the Costco price for the filter.

I already bought 5 of these filters. Four of them went good and clean the air very well, even smoke (unfortunately we live in a place where they still burn sugarcane fields). But one went bad. In the photo you can see the difference. The bad one has a foam gasket that lets the air pass without passing through the filter. The good ones have rubber gaskets.

I've got chronic asthma and allergies. It's become worse as I've gotten older. I have zero affiliation with this company but let me tell you something.. You really don't know what you've been breathing until you run a matching purifier with this filter and take a look at it after a month or so, you'll say out loud "oh my!" when you see what that filter has captured. It saved my life and my lungs! Run with a humidifier, this filter and a guardian purifier will change the way you feel, sleep and breathe. I rarely need my inhaler anymore! Ten stars for this filter, which does the real work in any purifier. Trust me.. Save your lungs, you'll need them until the day you meet your maker, so why not make breathing easier for the price of two good ribeyes.

It seems there may be multiple suppliers for this filter. I have bought this filter 3(?) times and the first one was great. The second one seemed to acquire a burning smell after a few months, so i replaced it. The new one I received continued to emit a burning smell. It began to frighten me so bad I contacted GermGuardian and they sent me a new machine under warranty.

Since the filter was almost brand new, I kept it (at the advisement of GermGuardian support) The burning smell remained even in the new GermGuardian. The filter that came with the machine does NOT emit this smell. (I kept the old GermGuardian and the results between the two filters are consistent - no burning smell in the old machine when paired with the NEW filter)

Would give 1 star but I received a new GermGuardian as a result...I'll look for new Carbon Filters and HEPA filters going forward for BOTH my GermGuardians

No need to worry, this is a OEM GermGuardian replacement filter. Germ Guardian changed there filter's. They now have a yellow housing (purple for the Pet one's) This one has the rubber gasket not the foam like the one I had before. Filters great! Will order again.

Seems to work as advertised. This has two layers to the filter. The removable top layer is a kind of green scouring pad material that attaches with small velcro tabs. This part is easily removed/reattached and can be easily cleaned with a vacuum.

It's nice that this first layer is preventing the primary filtration component from getting clogged up to quickly and unnecessarily with large particles - thus extending the lifespan of the filter considerably. This also gives you a visual as to how much the filter is working (and it's a little disturbing, actually...) Sometimes it's hard to tell how the primary filtration component is performing, so this top layer gives you a very real-world and immediate visual of what your filter is doing for your air quality.

We had this up in the northwest during the CA wildfire season, and all I can say is 'WOW'. Really glad we had it. Unbelievable how much particulate matter is floating unseen in a relatively small and presumably controlled environment.
