My toddler got a hold of the amazon fire remote and bought this movie. Not rented. Bought. Therefore, upon owning the movie for the entirety of my amazon membership, I Took it upon myself to watch it. It was a slight insult to my senses. It involves the hollow earth theory, and how King kong was able to run down a tunnel and find himself at the center of the earthers core. King kong, while a fairly large primate, would not be able to do this in what seemed like two and a half minutes. This happened in the first half of the movie, and I spent the subsequent half trying to mentally comprehend why the writer's room would think that the viewer wouldn't have an issue about this. I spent the following day explaining to a family member the events that had transpired in the movie, and he was equally confused. I have no doubt that he voiced his confusion to even more people (as I have) and now I feel like this movie has achieved something incredible; it has collectively blown the minds of people who have yet to see the movie.
Furthermore, there was a new human cast in this movie, compared to the human cast in the previous movie in the series, Godzilla: king of monsters. the previous movie starred Coach Frickin Taylor from Friday night lights and in GvK, he showed up for about three minutes. This is unacceptable. Coach Taylor would have stepped in, made the two protagonists do some drills, and avoided the whole confusion of fighting each other. They would have teamed up with each other to take on mecha godzilla (spoilers, don't care) and at the end of it Coach Taylor would have gotten them a scholarship to Texas A&M football program. Thats the movie America needs right now.
Also, my toddler disliked this movie. She has her first bout of buyer's remorse. Thanks Amazon.
Two stars for each minute where Coach Taylor was in this movie.
