Product description
From Amazon
For a little one who is reluctant to go to bed, sometimes a silly book is just the ticket. And when it comes to silly books, Sandra Boynton is the undisputed queen. In The Going to Bed Book, an ark full of animals watches the sun go down and then prepares for bed. They take a bath ("in one big tub"), find pajamas, brush their teeth, do exercises up on deck (imagine an elephant jumping rope, a moose lifting weights, and a pig doing handstands), and finally say good night. The moon is high. The sea is deep.
They rock
and rock
and rock
to sleep.
Boynton's inimitable animal characters have graced the pages of scads of picture books over the years. She has an extraordinary knack for knowing what appeals to small children: simple rhymes, goofy animals in goofy settings, and sweet, comforting stories. This book, along with her many other board-book titles (Moo, Baa, La La La!, But Not the Hippopotamus, and others) will surely remain a favorite. (Baby to preschool) --Emilie Coulter

How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I was expecting a larger book. There's nothing like a good old fashioned large book to read to a youngster.

A child I babysat years ago had this book and I loved it, this Christmas I thought of it again and sought it out for my niece. Was surprised how affordable it was! It arrived quickly and in good condition!
The contents are a sweet rhyming story of a ship crewed by animals getting ready for bed. The illustrations are really cute and as you can see in the previews, have a soft painterly style with gentle colors, which lessens visual stimulation. The writing flows beautifully into satisfying rhymes, rhyming is simple but this author seems to carefully choose the entire sentence, there are no mismatched words to stumble over, and the syllable count fits each line to the next like puzzle pieces. I know that sounds weird, I have OCD and wordcraft is something that sticks out to me - imagine singing a song and stumbling over a lyric because the syllable count is off by half a beat. Well, if you know, you know! This book has great flow, it's satisfying to read, enough that I still thought about it after 10 years, and I'm sure that is soothing to a child as well!
Last but not least, it is a quick read. Great for that kid who always asks for one more story. You can easily drag it out or fly through it in under a minute if you wanted. All around just a great little book! My thanks to the author! :)

Sorry, but this is our son's least favourite book. I have to say, for all the hype, I haven't been super impressed with the Boynton books. We have another one, "But Not The Hippopotamus", which he won't even let us get half-way through either. He's 8 months old right now, so maybe his literary tastes need to mature a little for him to enjoy these books.

Not the best Boynton book... I'd go with others instead. Small book, reaches on story line for rhyming sake, but it's generally cute. Also, am I screwing things up - am I supposed to exercise immediately before bed??? Just sayin.

Have a bath and then exercise before bed? It seems like a strange thing for anyone to do. In my opinion it ruined an otherwise good bedtime book.

It’s a sweet story, just didn’t realize it was meant to be religious. The illustrations are all linked to the story of Noah’s Ark.

My daughter (currently 7 months old) loves this book. I read it to her before her bedtime every night. it's short, cute and funny at the same time and is part of our bedtime ritual... I also love the illustrations!

This is not only our favorite bedtime book, but one I gift to every friend that is expecting. It's such a fun read, easy to get through for an antsy toddler and so silly. The perfect book for getting a little one ready for bed!

Amazing book

This book has a special place in my heart. I got it when I was 8 months pregnant and was buying stuff for my soon to be born baby. And I am glad that I bought this. Read so many good reviews about this book and was looking for a small yet interesting board book. This one is a steal for sure.
I started reading this book to my baby when she was as little as 3 months and now that she is about to be 6 months old, she loves the way I read the book and giggles alot. Though the pictures aren’t too fascinating for her liking, I am pretty sure she is going to love this book as she grows.
Overall, a great buy and highly recommended for new parents.

Could have been better
Reviewed in India on August 25, 2019Verified Purchase
The book could have been better if the figures would have been more clearer. Its difficult for toddlers to identify shapes as presented in the book.
Things I like about the book:
1) Build: Board Book
2) Story
3) Colors
Things I don't like about the book:
1) figures are not clear
2) Too many animals all together with not so clearer pictures.
3) Not engaging as compared to other books for toddler.
Better books are available.

Absolutely likable book...
Reviewed in India on April 25, 2019Verified Purchase
This book turned out a surprise for me. We had couple of bed time story books which I read to my 20 months old toddler. I wasn't sure to purchase this one. I went through some reviews on internet and thought to give a try. My little one immediately got attracted to this book. He loves looking at the pages where all animals are having a bath in a giant bathtub and having brush together. It's been a month now and this book has became his favourite one. The size of the book is just perfect to carry it anywhere. Round cut edges of the book makes it safe. The book is very sturdy too. Written in simple language with enjoyable illustrations makes this book highly recommended. This book surely won't disappoint you.

Un poco más flojo que otros de la colección
Reviewed in Spain on December 20, 2019Verified Purchase
Puntos a favor:
- Ilustraciones.
- Se puede trabajar el momento de ir a la cama.
Puntos a mejorar:
- Frases más sencillas e intuitivas.
