About the Author

Margaret Wise Brown, cherished for her unique ability to convey a child’s experience and perspective of the world, transformed the landscape of children’s literature with such beloved classics as Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. Other perennial favorites by Ms. Brown include Nibble Nibble, My World, Where Have You Been?, Christmas in the Barn, The Dead Bird, and Sneakers, the Seaside Cat.

Clement Hurd (1908–1988) is best known for illustrating Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny, the classic picture books by Margaret Wise Brown. He studied painting in Paris with Fernand Léger and others in the early 1930s. After his return to the United States in 1935, he began to work in children's books. He illustrated more than one hundred books, many of them with his wife, Edith Thacher Hurd, including the Johnny Lion books, The Day the Sun Danced, and The Merry Chase. A native of New York City, he lived most of his life in Vermont and California.

From Amazon

Perhaps the perfect children's bedtime book, Goodnight Moon is a short poem of goodnight wishes from a young rabbit preparing for--or attempting to postpone--his own slumber. He says goodnight to every object in sight and within earshot, including the "quiet old lady whispering hush." Clement Hurd's illustrations are simple and effective, alternating between small ink drawings and wide, brightly colored views of the little rabbit's room.

Finding all of the items mentioned throughout the book within the pictures is a good bedtime activity--a reappearing little mouse is particularly pesky. By the end of the little rabbit's goodnight poem, the story has quieted to a whisper, and the drawings have darkened with nightfall. As you turn the last page, you can expect a sleepy smile and at least a yawn or two. (Picture book) --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars cute
By Anthony on May 6, 2021
i hate this book, for some reason it makes me uneasy with how it is written. however, with that being said, it is a perfect book for little ones. the author did a lot of research on words and phase association. this means the author put words together that sound appealing to little ones which puts them in a trans which calms them down. it is almost hypnotizing. good recommendation for little ones

4.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than I thought :(
By Tia on December 14, 2020
I bought this as a present. I am very disappointed at how small it is. I’ve read this book at least 500 times in the past and it was NEVER this small. Nevertheless, I gave it 4 stars because it’s a GREAT book that all children seem to love. I have attached a picture to show an example of how small it is (the Kashi box was the smallest thing that I had...)

2.0 out of 5 stars One classic that hasn’t stood the test of time
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on October 31, 2019
While this may have appealed to children 50 years ago, I don’t think it has stood the test of time. Yes, it’s sweet with nice little rhymes, but it really fades in comparison with more modern examples of children’s literature. It’s not, for instance, a book that lends itself to being read aloud, as there is no scope for interesting voices, gestures or noises. And the black and white illustrations on certain pages are very boring. It’s all really rather bland and old-fashioned.

I adore reading to my two little grandsons who, despite being just 2 and 3, have already developed a real passion for books. This one, however, just hasn’t grabbed their attention at all and is never picked from the shelf when it’s time for a bedtime story. I trust their judgement, so just two stars I’m afraid.

Thanks for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful. Check out my profile page for more reviews of toddler books and puzzles and educational toys and games.
