This book contains a number of short to medium length articles written for Sports Illustrated magazine by leading sports writers, mainly about great or unique baseball players. SI has always had a stable of really good writers (Frank Deford, George Plimpton, Tom Verducci to name a few). If you enjoy baseball or very good sports writing in general, this is will be an enjoyable book. Its one which can be picked up for one or two stories, then put away for another time. It occasionally can be purchased at a much reduced price. I recommend it, especially at the reduced price.

This book does not disappoint at a very reasonable price. Because it is a collection of articles printed in the magazine over the years, some stories are better than others, but the good ones may be called great. I particularly liked Tom Verducci's insights into player doping; a sad state of affairs for the purist fan but interesting none-the-less. I compliment the editors for their choices covering 50 years of publication. I think you'll enjoy the tribute to Yankee Stadium in the bonus secion as much as I did. Enjoy.

This is excellent reading for any baseball fan. SI has published over the years many fine artices and this is the best of their baseball articles. They span the entire time of SI in the 1950's until the 2010's. I used this as a type of coffee table Kindle book. I would go read a few articles in between reading other books. I wasn not disappointed in any story. Many good human interest stories told within the baseball idea.

Since it first began, Sports Illustrated has had the best sports writing in a magazine. So it is no surprise that this is a good book. I could have gladly skipped the article on Barry Bonds, since it was less about him as a baseball player, and more about him as a pain in the butt. I also didn't enjoy reading about the steroid era. But that too is baseball history. All in all a really fine book that is easy to read.

Great assemblage of some of the best baseball articles in SI history. As a Cub fan, I finish with a new appreciation for Stan Musial, one of the greatest individuals to play the game. Also, so many stories about great moments in Yankee stadium history, as well as some of the quirky stars of the game like Dean Chance, Mark the bird Fidrych, and the endless line of Mets 3rd basemen before David Wright. The digital content is also a great addition, loved learning about my neighbors up the road in Macon and their improbable 1971 march to the State championship game.
