To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Have to stuff paper on the sides of the heel because the “wide heel” barely takes up 2/3 of the whole heel area. I don’t know if I got a wrong size or they’re just not wide at all and falsely advertising.

These are perfectly functional. I received 2 pairs and they're both fine, definitely cedar from the smell. I have two small concerns - the metal components appear flimsy in a way that isn't visible in the pictures, so I am gently with them. After my initial use, I did see some dust or powder in the heel of my shoe, and I believe it to be from the shoe tree I had just removed. I haven't noticed any since, so give them a wipe before using them once you receive them. Otherwise I appreciate their shape and form. I like the long lengthwise gap in the tow to allow airflow from the toe out of the shoe - that is an important part of the function in addition to the cedar wicking moisture.

Cedar Shoe Trees

Good quality men's shoes are expensive. It pays to take good care of them. Unfortunately, most men do not give their shoes the care that they need. Yes, they brush and shine them. But equally important is to keep them stretched when not in use. A good fitting shoe tree will do that.
Shoes get bent and wrinkled as you walk. Those wrinkles will stay on unless you apply a slight stretching tension to the leather. A properly adjusted shoe tree will add the right amount of tension to work out those wrinkles. These trees are made of cedar. Cedar might help keep insects away. They will also freshen the shoe and the wood will absorb some of the moisture from the leather.
Most shoes are disposable. Meaning we do not send them to the cobbler to get them repaired when the sole wears out. But even those type of shoes will benefit from a shoe tree. They will look nicer for a lot longer. Any leather shoe, from an inexpensive Bass Weejun to your expensive Ariat riding boots will look nicer longer, and last longer, if you insert a shoe tree after you take them off.
Taking care of leather dress shoes is usually an art passed down from father to son. But alas, in this day of Dockers and Clarkes, that art is no longer taught. You need a brush, cloth, leather soap, wax, and shoe trees to take care of dress shoes. You might also need a black dye for the edge of the sole and some spare laces. Suede shoes will need their own type of brushes, cleaners, and protectors. Riding boots are very expensive and should receive good care as well. The harsh environment of horse stables can quickly cause the stitchings to deteriorate if not taken care of properly.
Buy the right size tree for your shoe. Adjust the tension so that it is not too strong, but just enough to straighten the shoes. Clean the shoe and apply wax if the leather starts to dry out. Do not force a shoe tree inside the shoe if the leather is dry and brittle. Clean the shoe and apply a shoe cream first. Wait for the leather to hydrate and become soft again before forcing your shoe tree inside. You do not want to split the leather.
Highly recommended

Didnt work very well for size 12 dress shoes

Unfortunately I bought the x-large trees for a size 12, using them in regular dress shoes and the fit was not completely snug. I really was looking forward to these fitting tighter which is the whole purpose of buying a shoe tree to begin with. If you are reading this I would consider an alternate brand. The other part of the tree I didn't realize wasn't very good is the part where the tongue of the tree is, on these ones its lower/flat and doesn't fit snug, on other brands is more pronounced and fits tighter. I wouldn't recommend these if you are getting the x-large version like I did for size 12.

You might buy a size higher if you are anywhere me the upper size of the sizing chart.

Quality seems to be ok, but I’m disappointed with the fit. I bought the xl for a size 12 shoe, thinking it would be right. Sadly, the spring is pretty much fully extended, the toe is not As big as I expected either
This is my first foray into using shoe trees. I will admit that as long as I push the toes down into the shoes firmly with my hands, they do help keep the shape of the shoe much better than using nothing.
I might buy these again (sizing up a size), but I’m probably going to try a different brand next time to see if o can get an improved fit and toe size.

Seem more likely to ruin shoes than protect them. Do not purchase these!

I bought the size listed as being for size 12.
They are too small for my size 12 dress shoes.
Despite the advertisement mentioning the “wide heel,” the heel is considerably more narrow than my other shoe tree which causes a deformation in the shoes they’re placed in.
The front is also not high enough to press into the top of the shoe, so it doesn’t help prevent creasing.
Lastly, there’s almost no real tension or guide for the heel or toe portion so they can go at very odd angles.
These appear more likely to ruin good shoes than protect them.
But they do smell like cedar, so at least there’s that.
