Review

Praise for Haggis and Tank #1: All Paws on Deck:An Amazon Best Book of the Month, January 2016"Young...engag[es] her heroes in enticing banter and funny misunderstandings involving puns and homophones. It's especially gratifying to see that the big, tough, strong dog character is a female. Burks' plentiful, full-color art is consistently engaging...These salty sea dogs put the bite back in buccaneering." -- Kirkus"Two canine pals star in this entertaining, comics-style chapter book series for early readers...Tank and Haggis have many homophone-related miscommunications, a concept...which both helps aid reading comprehension and boosts the funny factor...The animated, distinctly drawn characters...will have kids seeking their future adventures." -- Booklist"The dogs' odd-couple antics, loads of goofy humor, and an appealing comics/early reader format make for an all-around entertaining read." -- Publishers Weekly"A must-have for the difficult-to-fill niche for readers transitioning from picture books and beginning readers to early chapter books...A solid new series for newly independent chapter book readers." -- School Library Journal

I bought this book to read with my 6 and 4 yr old boys. They have very short attention spans so it is hard to find fun book that we all enjoy and keeps their attention. The book arrived yesterday and they have been begging me to read it. At the end of every chapter they were begging me to read more! We finished the book and I can’t wait to read the rest in the series. I also love all the homophones.

Binding is already falling apart after only having this book for not even 2 days. Too quick of a read. Done in less then 2 days reading it to a preschooler. It’s a cute story, loved the illustrations but I question the reading level being 2nd grade level. It’s very simple reading and would keep my first graders attention but it’s not challenging for him either. Very little “reading” involved.
