What a hoot!

For this price point (just under $8), I would 100% recommend this book and buy it again! So cute and so fun. My daughter is 8, in a mixed grade of 2 and 3. You can trace the silly sentence they give you or write it in the lines below. Some of the words were a little advanced but a great way to teach new or ‘hard to spell’ words.

I assumed that "handwriting" means "cursive writing"! Well, this book is only printing practice design - not handwriting. I write daily...and it is in handwriting because back in Europe this is what they introduced us to from time we were 6 years old and never on printing. We graduated high school and never learned printing; however we can print without effort. But daily writing is handwriting, as it was all along the school years. So this book is definitely NOT handwriting!

Good: a fun concept for getting kids to enjoy writing!

Wish list: Tear-away pages, more than one line for the sentence, correct lining up of the letters

Cons: As others have mentioned the letters do not line up with the given lines...( I actually saw this before purchasing)... But I made it a fun point to quiz my 7 year old about what was wrong on the page. It took her about a minute but she passed. I used the mistake as a learning point. I don't have her trace the letters but she does re-write the funny sentences. She is artsy so she loves the drawing aspect and creating her own sentence. We homeschool and I leave this for last because I tell her that handwriting is an art and I want to see her best art. I just need her to have fun and not be overwhelmed so this is a bonus book for us despite all the "wish list" items.

3 stars because the main concept of correct placement is lost. Wish it was less than $6 as well. I would say $3 would be appropriate for this.

I searched for a couple months to find a curriculum in which the letters did not touch the top line. When the students print from line to line on notebook paper, it can make the paper messy and illegible. My students needed help to clean up their writing a bit, and I thought this book would be perfect, so I ordered a sample copy. The pictures of the writing on and in this book was just what I was looking for. However, when I received it, I was disappointed to find the letters going to the top line on every page. Very disappointing.

I’m really like this book and Ana teaches penmanship perfectly but for fourth grade I thought it was a little bit below their age appropriateness. I wish there was more of the search puzzles and decoding puzzles. They were too many blank pages that were for students to practice writing which I could’ve printed. But overall the book is great the kids like it and that’s what’s important is it encourages them to do their best.

Misspelled words!

I bought two books from the same publisher, Modern Kid Press, and both are problematic. This book is for handwriting, but asks kids to copy words that are spelled incorrectly! Where were the editors? Even Google Docs has a built-in spell check function, and Google Docs is free. Sending this back and sticking to known educational publishers, like Scholastic.

I work with K-6 students and handwriting is a big problem, particularly with most kids wanting to use computers. This book does nothing to help kids with handwriting. The words and letters to trace are solid lines, not disconnected lines that help kids trace. Basically, all they do is write over printed words. It has a lot of blank pages with lines only. I bought, and am returning, the $5.95 paperback version as I can get far better worksheets downloaded from the web for free, from legitimate sites. The spiral bound version is $15.95 which is certainly not worth the money!!

Capital letters are all wrong

I liked the idea of silly sentences to make handwriting practice more fun, but unfortunately the book’s capital letters are all printed wrong. Capital letters should touch the top line and none of them do. Also, if there is a curve in the letter, which should meet at the center line, it is printed below that. I attached a picture to make more sense. I can’t have my child practice incorrectly so I had to return this one.
