Isabel is an award-winning science writer and the author of more than 200 books about science and nature for young audiences. Her critically-acclaimed picture books Moth: An Evolution Story and Fox: A Circle of Life Story, illustrated by Daniel Egnéus, are both winners of the AAAS Subaru Prize for Excellence in Science Books, 2020 and 2023. Isabel also writes features for children’s science magazines The Week Junior Science+Nature and Whizz Pop Bang, and collaborates on outreach projects.

Isabel grew up in a low income, single-parent family and attended five different state schools before studying Human Sciences at the University of Oxford. She has devoted her career to inspiring children from diverse backgrounds to pursue science careers, including a research degree at the University of Cambridge exploring science education.

This book of Handy Horse Projects form Pet Projects is FULL of wonderful crafts, treats, and ideas for horses and horse lovers. Most of these projects can be done by kids but it is best to have adult supervision because some of them involve scissors and glue or cooking in the kitchen. I really like all the Pet Projects books because they are very crafty looking and set up like a scrapbook so they are really fun even just to look at.
There is a table of contents in the beginning with a handy horseshoe guide that shows how long the project should take. One horseshoe is up to 30 minutes, two horseshoes is up to 1 hour, and three horseshoes means the project will take over an hour. Each project in the book is marked with a number of horseshoes and a list of what you will need to help you complete the project. This makes it very easy to know exactly what you are getting into which if you have ever worked with a preschooler on a project, you know it is important to know what you are getting into before hand.

Just downloaded this book on my Kindle iPhone. The content in the book is easy to read and instructions on the crafts are very easy to follow. This would make a great book for 4-H clubs. The projects can be done by kids ages 6-13 in my opinion. There are some crafts for girls as well as boys. I love how there are cute horse tips on the pages too which helps educate the kids on some things about horses. The fact that some crafts use recycling ideas is good too - it introduces them to "upcycling" which is reusing a product for something else rather than just tossing in the trash. The pages are colorful and eye catching which makes the kids want to keep turning the pages. For kids that HAVE horses, they will want to make everything for their horse! I would definitely recommend this book for younger children. It is difficult to read when it's on your iphone - it is very small so keep this in mind when downloading to Kindle. I would recommend a bigger device to download to. A PC would be optimal. I received this product free of charge in exchange for my honest review.

This digital book is darling! I work with some special needs children who LOVE horses (who doesn't!). I am excited to do some of the activities listed in this book with them. There is quite a few of the activities that are better suited for those that are more than just fans of horses. You kind of need to be around horses to have some of the supplies available. Horseshoes for example. There is still plenty of crafts that I can do with my sweet special clients. This also gave me some ideas on even more from craft projects. I really like the color pictures and page layouts. There was a lot of thought and work that went into putting this book together. I received a discount on this item in exchange for testing it out and leaving my opinion in the form of a honest and unbiased review. My review is not based on the fact that I got a discount! I have no problem lower starts on items that did not meet my expectations. This book did meet my expectations. It is darling.

I downloaded this book for my daughter who at 9 is at the lower end of the recommended age range for these projects. She got into it right away and felt inspired to make one of the projects which worked out pretty well, even though we had to modify it a bit due to missing ingredients. For most of the projects in this book, we will have to prepare ahead of time, as they ask for items that aren't always at hand such as felt, craft foam or corrugated cardboard. The projects are explained step by step with accompanying photographs. There's not only craft projects, there are also some recipes in this book to make horse treats as well as cupcakes for a horse-themed party. The book has horse facts throughout, and is neatly illustrated. All in all a great addition to the library of any young horse lover. This is a sweet little book of craft ideas for kids who love horses. Ideally the age is probably 7-12 but it could go a few years in each direction. I have a lot of nieces and nephews who love animals and that's why I got this book, fun little projects for them to make when they visit. This would be a great way to spend some rainy weekends. Both girls and boys can appreciated the ideas in this book, so don't worry that it's just a "girl thing". Honestly it might even be of use in a senior center. It's well edited. Some of the crafts will require special preparation, so if you want to surprise a child with a craft afternoon, be sure to read through this prior so you'll have everything you need for the project you have in mind.
