Newbery Award-winner Gary Paulsen's best-known book comes to audio in this breathless, heart-gripping drama about a boy pitted against the wilderness with only a hatchet and a will to live.
On his way to visit his recently divorced father in the Canadian mountains, thirteen-year-old Brian Robeson is the only survivor when the single-engine plane crashes. His body battered, his clothes in shreds, Brian must now stay alive in the boundless Canadian wilderness.
More than a survival story, Hatchet is a tale of tough decisions. When all is stripped down to the barest essentials, Brian discovers some stark and simple truths. Self-pity doesn't work. Despair doesn't work. And if Brian is to survive physically as well as mentally, he must discover courage.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Fcking amazing book I dont read a lot never have, but I have read this book about 60 times in my short 26 years of life, highly recommended to every hunter fisher and outdoorsman out there, it’s a good camp fire book also short chapters and high energy throughout the entire book love it and will always be a fan of Gary Paulsen . Also just found out there’s a collection of the Bryan books I’ll be buying more than I can read

This is a deceptively slight book that outlines the sudden maturation and self-reliance of a teenaged boy who ends up stranded by a lake in northern Alberta when the pilot of the small plane he is in has a heart attack and dies, crashing the plane. All the boy has is the hatchet attached to his belt that his mother gave him as a parting gift, and his own ingenuity to keep himself alive until he is rescued. The sensitive description of the emotions and thought processes that the boy experiences is very relatable and will leave the reader with a new perspective on what matters most in life. It is not just a novel for youth, but can also be appreciated by adults who remember the challenges of adolescence, but an adolescence that didn't necessarily require them to survive in the bush on their own for months on end. I would recommend it to everyone, male or female, young or old.

Amazing book! I got the kindle version. On Amazon and it downloaded quick and easy into the app. Its very easy to access and to read.
I listened to this book as a book on tape when I was a kid and loved it. I have been thinking a lot about it recently and decided I wanted to read the series again. It's definitely an easier to read book and would be great for preteen and up (or younger more advanced readers).
This book weakens the part of me that loves adventure and the outdoors, I can't wait till my kids are old enough for it.
This is an excellent will written and intriguing book (and series) is definitely recommend it for those who love adventure and the great outdoors.

I admit, I got this classic for myself, but it would be a good read for kids around 10 or so. It does deal with some dark topics (spoiler alert, attempted suicide), but makes for a good way of discussing topics like this with kids.

I read to my 11 yr old daughter every night & this was a new author we tried out due to high reviews. We really enjoyed Hatchet & now almost done The River. Daughter wants to read the whole set.
Only complaint is its hard to find anywhere that shows which order the books are in order to order/read.

This is a good book for teens who aren't big into reading and enjoy bushcraft, fishing, etc. It's a relatively short, but classic story about a young man and his survival in the wilderness. I used it as reading for my grade 7 child's Homeschool curriculum and he enjoyed it.

There are still a few books I am reading, so I have left the book for later reading. As we knew, Hatchet is a Newbery Honor-winning young-adult wilderness survival novel, so I'm very excited and looking forward about this book.

My ten year old loves this book and can’t put it down. It arrived yesterday and he’s currently sitting at the dining room table eating and reading. He won’t go anywhere without this book and is already begging for the next book in the series.

Both my son's (and me) enjoyed this book. Don't want to spoil the story too much but it's gripping, most kids will enjoy this! Brian is a city boy. Not used to being alone. Not used to living rough. Until his plane crash-lands in the Canadian wilderness. All he is left with is a hatchet.
