Worked well
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 19, 2021Verified Purchase
Assembled easily. the two upper and 1 lower mounting arms and the rubber support tie downs are very substantial, and seem of good and lasting quality. The locking mechanism to the car and the wire for locking bikes to mount is good. The minor weakness is see is that there is a thumbscrew on the upright post to take up any slack on the post and minimize and vibration on travel, when riding with mount only no bikes it came loose a bit over 30-40 miles of mostly highway travel. I replaced this with a bolt of same thread pattern but with a locking nut to keep it from backing off. I took 4 adult mountain bikes 430 miles each way top OBX without any incidents or anything coming loose. I may not have needed to change this thumbscrew with a locking nut and bolt. It worked very well, but I suspect that I would not be able to easily put 5 adult mountain bikes on it even though it has hold downs for 5 bikes. I did not need put 5 bikes on it but the handlebars and cranks for 5 adult bikes seems really tight in my opinion. The width of the top two bars could have been a bit narrower to help get bikes on easier.

decent rack - but some quirks
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 17, 2009Verified Purchase
The Hollywood Rack is a decent rack, but definitely has some quirks.
assembly is straightforward, but getting the bikes onto the rack requires some
careful maneuvering - and getting 5 bikes on at the same time (which is the capacity of the rack, they say) is impossible without an advanced engineering degree.
In addition, the "stability" bar that folds down doesn't do a lot - you have to come up with some creative ways to use the supplied nylon/cordura cords to keep the bikes from moving around.
Finally, the rack itself has an inelegant, and somewhat ineffective, single screw to
keep it vertical and free from wobble - the screw loosens pretty quickly with road vibration, and it's way too small a diameter to hold the very wide main post in place,
particularly when the rack is fully loaded - this was not well thought at all.
however, we have used the rack several times without any disasters, and expect that we'll use it many more times - both locally and for road trips.
from what I've seen of other products out there, this is about average, and for the price we paid - probably got a good value.
Oh - important side note - you MUST have the adapter bar to mount (kids) mountain bikes or girls frames successfully and well - we forgot this and wound up having to by them locally - all they had were THULE bars - which cost $10 more per bar than the Hollywood version - and the THULE ones really stink! they joints rusted on the first day we had it, and the release nubs started to stick the next day.

heavy, strong for 5 bikes
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on August 18, 2009Verified Purchase
I bought this rack togehter with a Curt 13256 hitch for my 2009 Sienna. It took me less than an hour to install every thing. Overall, I am happy with this config.
Negatives: it weights a ton (approx 50 pounds). The plastic straps could be 1 or 2 inches longer to accommodate the big-bone mountain bikes. Better be careful putting on that inner-most bike, or else you'll scratch your car. On the other hand, I think it is a good idea to use the inner-most bike as a counter-lever.
Positives: It is heavy and the welding was done well. If it is made with quality steel, it should hold up over time. The tension device at the bottom that pulls on the pin and keeps the rack from wobbling works pretty well. I don't need to use the anti-sway bar unless in long distance travels.

The purchasing process was very painful - shipment got lost in transit and it arrived much later than expected. The box upon arrival looked as though it had been through heck and back. Once opening the one plastic piece holding it all together the bike rack was filthy - looking like it sat in the warehouse for several years.
The good news - history behind us the rack fits 5 bikes great (2 adult and 3 children) and feels very sturdy. Rack is rather heavy but weight aside it's easy to take on and off the hitch making a quick setup for a family bike outing.

Great for five bikes but difficult to get them all on it!
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on July 8, 2015Verified Purchase
This works really well with our Buick Enclave. It was easy to build and works great with our six bikes! However, it is DIFFICULT to get them all on the rack.....so plan some time to do it! It's like a puzzle!
